How much would should I be looking at to pay for rent in Auckland or Wellington

How much would should I be looking at to pay for rent in Auckland or Wellington?
I'm having to make my budget now because I am going there on a working visa from England and I have never been before. I figure that these are the two biggest cities so these will probably be the most expensive to live in. Are bills such as Electricity and water counted on as part of the rent or are they separate? I'm looking to live in a shared property with maybe 2/3 people (price for this generally?) but if I don't find anyone how much would single rent be? As an Idea of a house, I'm not after much, I'm only 22 and I am willing to compromise but I would like a well looked after house/flat at least :P. Thank you all for answers. How much should I* Woops typo :P

Have a look at www.trademe.co.nz under the property listings you shall find the "Rent "section there. Tademe is really popular here in NZ very similar to eBay. That shall give you a great understanding of how much you shall be looking at to rent. As to water and electricity, that is on top of the rent "usually" but not always Christchurch could be another option for you to look at as far as bigger cities, perhaps even Hamilton Dunedin Tauranga and New Plymouth which apparently has the highest growth in employment at the moment Good Luck !!

It sounds like you'll want to stay fairly close to the city centre so you'll be looking at city prices which are more than those in the suburbs and surrounding areas. I can't comment on Auckland, but in Wellington you can expect to pay around $150 - $200 per week for a room in a shared flat or apartment. You may find somewhere for less, but it could easily be more. Whether electricity is included in the price depends on the setup at each flat, but if it is included your rent will probably be at the high end of the prices above. You might be able to score a studio or 1-bedroom apartment in the $200-$300 range, but electricity would be additional. There's an excess of apartments in Wellington at the moment and rumours of people receiving 1-2 weeks free rent or free car parking when they sign a lease so if you time things right you might find a better deal. Two bedroom apartments are generally in the $300-$400/week price range.
