Where do I start in finding IT work in New Zealand? I'm looking into emmigrating from the USA with my family. New Zealand seems like a great place to live and has a great quality of life which I want for my family. Mostly looking at Tauranga, Napier, Hamilton, Palmerston, but perhaps even Wellington or Invercargill or Dunedin. We aren't big city types. :)

Everything depends of your qualifications or if you are really available to work hard. Do not go to small cities otherwise you will find yourself and your family working in a farm. I did that before and i hate it. Queenstown is a good place if you available to do hospitality jobs.

You can look for jobs online www.seek.co.nz and trademe.co.nz go to jobs section Just a couple of job search websites in new zealand. Hope they help.

New Zealand has a website that allows you to do a search for jobs all over the country. Here's the link: www.seek.co.nz Secondly, here's some info on the places you'd like to live (I'm a Kiwi): Tauranga: Nice environment for kids and teenagers. Nice place to live generally. A few really cool things to do if you're the outdoors type. I have not lived here myself but I have been there to stay with friends. Napier: Great place to live. I have lived here myself actually! I would strongly recommend moving to Napier. Hamilton: If you're a farmer, then great. But Hamilton itself is extremely boring in my opinion (yes, I have lived here). The only goof thing is that it's located only about an hour and a half away from Auckland City (where all the fun is!) I'm not sure how old your kids are, but they probably would find Hamilton a bit boring. If you're into hiking you may find some fun there, however. Palmerston: Have never been there, but from what I've heard, it's extremely average. Even Hamilton would probably be better than Palmerston! Wellington: Pretty cool. I have been here. It is a city though! Invercargill: Haven't been here, but I know that not a lot happens here! Dunedin: Nice place. Some of my family lives down here. Very cold! The places you have chosen would be far easier to find IT work than most other places (although I'm not sure how great the jobs are in Palmerston). And last of all, good job choosing New Zealand to raise your kids! It is a great country, and is ranked the number one safest in the world (with the US falling somewhere way, way down that list). Good luck here in New Zealand! :)

lucky you arent big city types, because theres only 1 city and its small emmigrating to new zealand is a bad idea, it doesnt have a great quality of life, if you want to go to a western country with great quality of life you would move to Australia which has a much lower crime rate than NZ, then you will be able to have spare money after you have paid rent and food for the week, whereas in New Zealand most of your pay goes on rent..and the pay is small anyway and if you have family, you will probably find yourself stuck in a small town like you mentioned with your kids growing up and moving to Australia as soon as they turn 19 (if your kids grow up in australia they will be surfie/sporty types, if they grow up in NZ they will become wannabe rapper/gangstas with no good friends) forget about going on vacation too, because you'll need a few thousand to leave New Zealand to visit somewhere else, and thats with just you on vacation with no family
