How do I find film work in Wellington, New Zealand

How do I find film work in Wellington, New Zealand?
Hi I am looking for any type ( pre-production, production, post) work in film in Wellington New Zealand. I have been applying to companies but everywhere says they have no vacancies. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film/video from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and I have had alot of experience handling cameras and with film equipment. I don't know what to do next, anyone have any helpful hints on how to land a job working in TV or film? Thanks for the responses! My email is Jeffanox@yahoo.com, I look forward to hearing from you Tim C.

I I just moved over as well. I would say there are few options. First Weta is hiring sometimes it depends there are alot of studios outside of Auckland. Get a hold of the film directory guide T he main industry 'job postings' that I have seen are in the email updates sent out by Onfilm http://www.onfilm.co.nz/ . I believe however that there is a small subscription fee to receive this is if you don't subscribe to their hard copy magazine. Details at http://www.profile.co.nz/shopping/details.asp?pubcode=ONF . Another organsation that may be able to advise you on where to find job listings is SPADA http://www.spada.co.nz/home/home.html . The Crew Booking Agency may be able to help you as well http://www.crewbooking.co.nz/ . A good overall resource is The Databook http://www.databook.co.nz/ - again I believe you have to pay to access all the data - but at least check out their online links for a good overview of the scene here. Occasionally there are screen production vacancies on The Big Idea website http://www.thebigidea.co.nz . I have attached one recent listing http://www.thebigidea.co.nz/modules.php?op=modload&name=Job_Listings&file=index&func=view&job_id=1788 . book. Cathy Randall is very helpful for Migrants coming over here. I am a 3D Animator I have started in Auckland and am moving down to Wellington. Because you do post production check out companies like Oktober they did the post for Lord of the rings. I will be honest it is very hard going here. Try Cathy she has really helped me out and prompted me to move down. I would also say do not live in Auckland. Coming from the States as well it is not a great place if you can just try her and see what happens give it a go they are also opening alot of Film Companies outside Auckland in Hamilton. I know that 30 days is currently being filmed. The problem is it is still really small here. Cath Randall @ Possitively Wellington Business I will say it is very beautiful here and heard Wellington is choice. Cheers, Dara

Unfortunately there is a large pool of film people already here and most of us are locals. We tend to be cheaper to hire than Americans and all the major studios are a pretty tight ship. We also have a large film school industry and you'd have a problem getting a work permit as we have plenty of NZ applicants. If you post your email I will contact you privately. I run my own small production business.

Would be pretty expensive to do that, 1, You could Fly (expensive) or 2, You could drive 155kms to picton (1.5hrs) them jump on the ferry for a 3hr Boat trip. Properly be a bit much but I know of People that have done it.

Yes if you really wanted to - I mean it's only a 30 min flight each way ... it's probably the taxis in Wellington that will kill ya price wise.......... Job would have to pay very good to do this. A mate did this for a couple years, lived in Nelson and worked in Wellington, but only worked 3 days a week, not 5 days... You would defiantly want to sign up for air points!

Is it OK to wear wellington boots to work

Is it OK to wear wellington boots to work?
I was going to get welly boots these ones: http://www.pricelessshoes.co.uk/webapp/w... and wear them to work when rainy season comes. but I'd only wear them in the car and the walk to work and change when I get to work. Will people laugh at me or think I'm unprofessional? I only want to keep my feet dry and warm. Should I get black or white ones instead? I work in an office.

I think it will be fine if you get them for work. I would get the black ones there more professional.

I see no problem with wearing Wellington boots to work. Surely it is better to have warm, dry feet than cold soggy ones all day. Nobody, unless they put a secret camera in your car could laugh at you and call you unprofessional. I wear odd socks because it amuses me and amuses people at work when they notice. I am currently training to be a Children's Nurse.

I think you can buy them from your local DVD shop when it comes out on DVD. If you do manage to get one from Readings can you pleeease tell me! I'm dieing for one!

Some people work really well in Readings, but there's a whole pile who don't seem to give a damn. In regards to the Twilight poster, you'll probably need to wait until it ends its run before they make them available. Paramount used to do a yearly clear out sale of all their posters, Reading should try the same.
