Study in Sydney Australia or Wellington

Study in Sydney Australia or Wellington ?
Hi, I have been offered to do PhD in economies with the University of Barcelona , University of Sydney, and Vitoria University in Wellington. Which university should I choose? My husband will also be joining me so one main criteria for the choice will be for him to find a full time job as he will be the main supporter while I study. He speaks fluent English, Spanish and Russian and his background is in journalism. He will be able to work unlimited hours for the duration of my studies in all 3 countries. This is something I learned which applies only if you are doing a PhD. Please advice. Tuition in Australia is 30k AUD per year, in Barcelona probably no more that 5,000EUR per year and in NZ 5,000 NZD per year. Thanks.

Victoria university is very nice . well situated and cheaper living than Sydney but the weather is not nearly as nice as Sydney. They call it Windy Wellington . Sydney is much bigger so job opportunities will be a lot better. Plus wages will be better in Sydney . Personally I would choose Sydney as i love outdoor living and beaches
2 :
I recommend Sydney, only focusing on job opportunities, in journalism, there'll will be plenty more here then Wellington. The two universities are fairly good the same level but I think getting PhD from Sydney Uni might look better in future.

How should I go about getting around in New Zealand

How should I go about getting around in New Zealand?
I am heading over to the 'land of the long white cloud' in January 2011. It has been a great passion of mine for a long time, and I have been looking forward to going for quite sometime. A lot of people ask me why new Zealand and I simple say it is a home from home, or it is the farthest you can get from home before you start coming back again - live in UK. I love the outdoors and nature and New Zealand ticks all the boxes for me. I plan on staying for two months through summer and into the beginning of Autumn, which I think would be the best time to go. I am travelling with my brother to Australia and then visiting some family members, then will head over to new Zealand from there: First Question What is the best way to get from Australia to New Zealand? I am backpacking whilst out in New Zealand and taking camera equipment with me as I am a keen photographer, hoping to extend my portfolio. I purely want to go there as it is everything I want from a holiday, not lazing about in a hotel etc, although this isn't wrong just not my cup of tea. I am 18 and looking for somewhere to explore, travel, take part in activities, fish, swim, hike, cycle, sky dive, ski, drive, photograph, witness Maori culture, nature, wildlife, flora fauna etc etc. I plan on landing in Wellington and then working my way down to the south Island. However, I do not want to plan it as such. second question: What is the best way of getting around new Zealand and planning your days? I suppose it depends on the weather and what is available at the time, but i have looked through brochures, austravel books on package deals consisting of activities I want to take part in, but they are very pricey, IU just want to get up and go, walk around find something to do then do it. Independence is the key and I do not want to be stuck with a large group for a long time, as most packages consist of a few weeks together. I do not mind this, but wanted to know the difficulties I would be facing - if any - if I were to leave it until I am there. Obviously i will research the areas I plan on going. Also, I want to explore off the beaten track, find small areas you could camp for the night perhaps or experience new zealand in a different way. I prefer to South Island after researching but would happily see both islands and witness the differences. I love animals and nature, so any wildlife sanctuaries or tours would be great. Third question Where are some great places or well known areas that are a 'must see'? Also, any other information is great and much appreciated, such as travelling times to different areas, how to get around, boat, car, plane, walk, where to go, who to talk to hostels etc, where to work for money if needed - WOOFERS - how much money to take - bearing in mind I will not be splashing out just traveling and looking after myself. What details I need to bring, hiring cars, bikes etc, where to fish, where to stay, where to meet Maori culture. Any info is great. Thanks James Girdler

Wow, sure sounds like you have a great trip planned! For car hire I highly recommend Lynx Car Hire, they have very good rates https://www.cartrawler.com/res/affiliate/?client=242770#quote
2 :
hire a camper van! It is an amazing experience!
3 :
No doubt if I was in your place then hiring a good big car would certainly be on my platter. But you need to select this type of car carefully as it should have too much miles on it and should be proper condition. From my very own personal experience I can suggest you that you hire car from either mentioned below. Both these car rental sites offer variety of cars that to cheap rates and very good service to go with. http://www.newzealandcarsrental.com/ http://www.australiarentcar.com/ Both these car rental sites provide services round the globe.
4 :
In NZ , it's all off the beaten track. Rental car and camping equipment. If you must have a campervan, pull over to let people pass. It's a pretty small country and you can find all 'that' at the airport, failing that, just start driving, North or South it's all good.
5 :
Plenty of trans-Tasman flights. Pick the cheapest and many tourists fly into Auckland, out of Christchurch. Weather is good at that time of year - later on, you should do the cooler South Island first. Rental cars are easy - I get a older model which could be $25 a day. Check out what happens for a rental crossing Cook Strait, sometimes you can drop off and pick up on the other side and if you have to return to the same place, With 2 months, you might pick up a old car for about 2 grand and flicking it on at the end. Cheaper but riskier if it blows up or you can't sell it. Check out trademe.co.nz for cars. Other alternatives is a bus which does a set route and you get on and off - fine but limited on the outdoors front. Must sees for me - Bay of Islands, Auckland, Coromandel, Rotorua, Waitomo, Taupo, Taranaki, Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura, Christchurch, Mt Cook, Queenstown, West Coast. Hit a couple of National Parks - Mt Aspiring, Abel Tasman. Outdoors - Tongariro Crossing, Central Otago Rail Trail, Hump Track, Taranaki round the Mountain, kayaking in the sea at Abel Tasman or river on the Whanganui. Work - try orchards around Hawkes Bay, Nelson for seasonal work
6 :
I really need to get my NZ itinerary planning business up and running, don't I? With five visits I think I can really help you. however as that is not what yahoo answers is for, here are some hints: - you don't need a package, just a hire car; if you were there for longer I would suggest buying a car but it's not worth it for two months. Car plus hostel is cheaper than camper van - and a lot warmer and more sociable! Bring passport, driving licence, travel insurance. - you don't have time to work with only two months, WWOOF generally wants at least a week's stay in each place. - 'free camping' is gradually being outlawed throughout NZ because of the mess that is being left. Campgrounds cost around $20-$30 a night, if you are on your own I'd stick to the BBH hostels, where a dorm bed is around $25 a night and you get all the bedding, kitchen kit etc. www.bbh.co.nz for info and ratings; stick to the smaller hostels. Avoid the BASE chain unless you are a party animal. Book ahead in January when the Kiwis are also on holiday, and in February for popular places. That said, there's usually a hostel bed somewhere for one person. - food costs about the same as UK, more in smaller places. Petrol around 80p a litre equivalent when I was last there. - driving takes longer than you think; look on the NZ AA site for a distance/time calculator and always add a bit. For instance, Te Anau to Milford Sound is at least two hours. - you need a fishing licence for NZ. - do as much walking as possible; all the information on the Department of Conservation website. - NZ does not actually have that much wildlife, there is only one native mammal (the bat) and the birds have been decimated by the import of possums, rabbits and stoats. There is a Kiwi sanctuary in Hokitika and a bird park in Te Anau, as well as some bigger places. Best bet is to go walking alone, stay clear of the shouting tourists who won't see anything and the robins, fantails and riflemen will come to you if you are quiet. - must sees; check out '101 must dos for Kiwis' for ideas. enjoy. Can you stay longer?

Since you guys still meet with each other frequently I'm pretty sure it'll work out. Of course there will be suspicion...hopefully not, but because the distance sometimes works that way. Not to put doubt but since you guys know each other a lot it'll be fine! Good luck on your new relationship! :D
4 :
love must be in the air cuz the same thing happened to me :D we live pretty far away and so far it has worked out i dont know you trasportation and what not but i cant drive yet buy my parents are fine with taking me were i gotta go. anyways i think it will work for you it sure has been working for me. ;D help me? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AldihIWJ5c6UqkNZPpXmxJvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100101232910AA9Y1bc

Whether the relationship will work is up to you two. And it definitely helps that you go visit pretty often. I think you should go ahead and give it a try. I mean, it would be problematic if he's the type to hang out and flirt with girls all the time, but if he wants it to work, he'll put in the effort to make it work (assuming you do to). Good luck. And congrats! It's exciting to be asked out by the guy you like!
6 :
ooh! i live in christchurch too! yay for christchurch :) anyway back to the question. ah, the long distance relationship, yeah it should work, cos you said you often visit? it should be algud if you guys really like [or if in this case, love] each other, not to do any of the stupid stuff with other people. oh, trust is also a big thing here too. don't be scared, if he really likes you, he will still like you, he won't loose interest in you in a snap of a finger. hope this helps. good luck! (:

I don't know, long distance relationships don't usually workout. Good luck.

Could I get a work visa in New Zealand if I find a job there? More below

Could I get a work visa in New Zealand if I find a job there? More below?
Hi my name is Antwan and I am thinking of either moving to Australia or New Zealand on a work Visa just to see if I like it after College. My skill is in need in Australia but not in New Zealand( my skill is Journalism and I will have an Journalism degree). If I am able to find a job in New Zealand could I at least come over for 12 months even though it is not a need. What if I decide that I want to stay after the 12 months. Would it then be easier to get a Permanent Visa just as long as I haven't caused any trouble there? I was also looking at information about Auckland. It seems like a nice place to stay along with Wellington. Could you give me a little information about Auckland? What do you think is better city to live in for a Single male in his 20's?"

Te best place to get this information is www.immigration.govt.nz I think that you may be able to if your employer sponsers you but check out the website. Auckland and Wellingtonare both good cities. Auckland is warmer and has ten times the population but Wellington is a cosmopolitan city with good cafe/bar nightlife and good proximity to travel in the south island.Auckland will have more employment. Hope that helps but check out the website.
2 :
It would be better to find a job first...maybe you could go into a similar arena to that of Journalism or look at a larger company who often publish their own inhouse brochures, magazines, or advertising agencies are always looking for good script/advert writing etc Auckland is the largest city in NZ, and Wellington is the 2nd largest...Good Luck!
3 :
Contact immigration as the first person suggested. Both Auckland and Wellington are good. Auckland is a big city with alot going on, Wellington is a small city but also has alot going on. Wellington's weather isn't always the best (terrible in Winter, has a chilling wind) but it's a very friendly city & maybe easier to meet people. Auckland has better weather (but it will rain alot in Winter) but is not as friendly as Wellington. Both have an excellent nightlife. You could go to both cities as soon as you arrive (only a one hour flight) & decide which one you like best. Airfares between the 2 cities can be as little as $70 one way at times also. I'm not sure which country you are from but to ensure you aren't lonely while you are here maybe you might want to contact some organisations here that are associated with your country or continent, so that you have some social contacts lined up already (like a cultural organisation or an ex patriate society for people living here from your country, etc).

Sorry Antwan, we already have way to many journalists in NZ.

Emigrating to New Zealand where is the best place to live

Emigrating to New Zealand where is the best place to live?
Hi, my partner and I am going to be emigrating from the UK to New Zealand but where in New Zealand? Can you please help! We after somewhere with: * good job prospects (I'm a legal secretary, my partner is a service engineer for gym equipment) * house prices musnt be too expensive * nice location i.e. scenery, crime. would be nice to be overlooking or close to a beach, lake (i love dolphins) * dont really want a long drive to work each day * good shops & activities * also relaxing and peaceful (if possible) I think Wellington is possibly out for us as dont like the sound of earthquakes every 2 to 3 months and personally I dont like it windy. I think our main concern is job prospects and a 'nice' area. So have I made it near impossible to find our perfect place in NZ? Although if what I'm saying about Wellington isnt as bad as it sounds then PLEASE do put me right as I like the positioning of Wellington :)

South Island is a good place to live plus all your likes - just pick any town but I think Christchurch possibly the better for job prospects. North Island is closer to the quake zone but job prospects are brighter given the larger number of people and businesses. Also warmer in North Island. South Island can be freaking cold. Take a trip and check out the places you shortlist. I did.
2 :
G-day http://www.movetonz.org/ NZ is one of the few countries that really do have 4 seasons. Personally I think the south Island is better - beautiful landscape vast mountain chains, steaming volcanoes, sweeping coasts, golden beaches, alpine peaks, glaciers, rain forests and grassy plains.! I lived in Nelson (for many years) located at the top of the South Island. Nelson city is the 10th most populous city and geographical centre of New Zealand. Nelson and Tasman Region has a resident population of 92,300 (2006 census) Annual Rainfall: 985mm, Average Sunshine Hours: 2392hrs (sunniest place in NZ) Max Temperature January 22.3º Min 13º Extreme Max 36.13º Max temperature July 12.2º Min 1.5º Extreme Min -6.6º Main website for Nelson is http://nelsonnz.com On one side of Nelson you have Abel Tasman http://www.abeltasman.co.nz and Golden Bay, http://www.goldenbay.net.nz/en/guide.html and the other side Marlborough.http://www.destination.co.nz/marlborough - everything is not far away if wanting a change of scenery. Close to everything, beaches, the countryside, ski fields, wineries, hiking tracks etc…. again my opinion, less crime in South Island also. Nelson is probably the safest place. Next choice would be Christchurch. Houses are expensive anywhere in NZ – but Nelson is not as expensive as Auckland or Wellington. For more info – http://nelsonnz.com http://www.nelsoncitycouncil.co.nz/jobs/jb-living.htm For Christchurch - http://www.christchurch.org.nz/Living/ Moving to NZ Information - http://newzealandnow.info/au/article/au-come-on-over Working in NZ http://www.workingin-newzealand.com http://www.workpermit.com/new_zealand/new_zealand.htm Cost of living in NZ http://www.emigratenz.org/cost-of-living-in-new-zealand.HTML http://www.nz-immigration.co.nz/cost-of-living Other option if you have Google Earth – type in Nelson, New Zealand and click on the many photos people have added to the database.

NZ has a kind of social complexity that you do not encounter in any other country. There is a strong bullying culture at work environment especially towards foreigners. It is a small isolated country. So what you think the major source of income is. Of course it is agriculture and tourism. The problem is because salaries are low most educated people leave for better income overseas. This creates a big problem.. As I said it is a small country. So what do you think people might feel when most young generation emigrate. Well they feel they are invaded by foreigner migrants especially Asians, Indians and others. For many years white people dominated the country and Maories were lower class citizens. When the white young generation is emigrating the country, fear of losing the power and fear of losing the working class (age 16-45) can cause a hostile environment towards new comers….If you spend some time with them you will see how much they adore and admire themselves and their younger ones compared to other nationalities no matter where they are from…..This is a dominant culture…even if a kiwi commits a crime if the victim is not a main stream New Zealander the chances that lawyers and justice protect their own people is quiet high. Because they want to keep their people and stop them from leaving. This culture exists in all of them .Almost all of them…politicians, doctors, lawyers, taxi drivers, farmers…..almost all of them maybe because they want to teach them to value their country and stay….however because tourism is their biggest source of income over many many years of dealing with migrants and foreigners they know they need migrants for their money….I have never seen any other nationality in the world being able to rip off so skilfully as kiwis. They make a slave out of you. They make you work for free. Most skilled migrants are young, motivated, and energetic and have some saving. They come to NZ to make a better life. They spend some of their best years of life, the first five years after leaving their country to work hard to achieve nothing instead. I have seen many families break up; I have seen many of them get depressed. A lot of them leave NZ after a few years of putting up with abuse, some leave for Australia; some go back to their home country. Some of the migrants who have some kind of support network and can stand the abuse or work as self-employed may stay and instead the way they cope with this culture is they turn to be like their kiwi abusive mates. I have seen some of them start cheating, stealing and exploiting others to be able to mentally integrate into the society around them and of course some of them do none of these and stay the way they were but in a less motivated, depressed slavery mood. Ironically when foreigners get ripped off by kiwis they get blamed for not being careful. I have seen young rich Japanese students who get bashed and their money get stolen but instead they will get criticized of being careless. Kiwi students and young generation have this mentality that foreigners are rich, are pain free and they have their money because their mummy and daddy gives them their money and they do not work hard for it so they deserve their money to be taken away from them because this is the kiwi land and if these foreigners want to stay here they should help us with our economy. We are the best people in this world, our country is the most beautiful country in the world, our government is the least corrupted government of the world (of course that is the other way round), our graduates are the brightest in the world, our poo and wee is from gold and because of all these all non-kiwis should adore us and pay us lots and lots of money because we deserve it. New Zealanders are very jealous towards Australians. You just need to tell them how better Australia is compared to NZ. Then you get a sheep thrown to your head and they fart angrily into your face. I have seen some of these kiwis when they come to Australia they brag about their country to other nationalities to encourage them to visit their country and this way to help their highly dependent economy. Some of them say funny lies, For example they say they have lived in many countries all around the world and nowhere else is like New Zealand , The best wheater, the best health system, the best education, the best and most friendly people, no corruption, no crime, affordable and great lifestyle, etc, etc. The funny thing is some of them claim they were Aussies and now live in NZ because Australia had lots of crime, Australians were racist, Australia was this and that and NZ is the best place on earth and even the whole entire universe to live! If you do not know them well you poor naïve person will believe all these and if you know them well somehow you just feel sorry. However about 35% of the population rely on social benefits (a lot of elderly left alone by their children, a lot on sickness benefits and lots skill less Maories), 70% of the medical school graduates leave the country after 2 years of finishing their studies and only one third of foreign doctors remain in this country to work due to poor working conditions. You can imagine how dangerous it can be to become sick in this country. Studies show a great percentage of migrants lose their health after being and living in NZ due to poor health system comparable to third world countries even worse. Although they claim their country is safe but if you live there you feel how dangerous it is : high bullying rate at work, constant ripping off, constant pressure from local main stream New Zealanders to suck more blood from you and poor health system and poor service due to lack of skilled professionals. Because most migrants leave after a few years the government tried to make it longer to get NZ citizenship to keep them in NZ longer. They just try to make everything longer, stretching the time they can suck up more blood. They make it more difficult for everyone to get entry to the country just to make them more eager and make their own value higher. It is just like a rouge trade person who makes you wait and run after him before he comes to your house and does all the repairing and asks you a lot of money. It is just a way of torture to take whatever they can from anyone who goes to their country because this is the only way they can have income. Otherwise except exporting agricultural products there is nothing else to be able to produce significant profit. The number one source of money over the last few decades were international students, when the number of students and skilled migrants drops they do every effort to attract them into the country and then just drag them from here to there to take their money out of their pocket and how cunning and skilled they are in this industry God knows. For example, they stupefy these students and ask them to take papers which are more expensive .You just will be amazed by their ability. Nearly almost everyone knows some tricks when it comes to meeting other nationalities. They are superficially friendly to get your trust and make a fool out of you. Because the nature is green, beautiful and peaceful a high percentage of new comers get fooled... The best preys are some naïve idiot foreigners from third world countries. They know how to bully people around the globe if they can to be able to shake them till all the money falls out of their pockets. If you live in small city after a while you realise how much they are dependent on the money foreigners bring in .You just feel you are constantly have to feed them and let them suck and that will never end. If you are skilled you have to work for long hours with low pay, what they claim is our pay is low but we offer a great lifestyle. They have very particular ways of satisfying you instead of low pay, for example they give you the power to control others, greasingly admire you, superficially make friend with you, respect you and the list goes on and on….Then when it comes to daily life activities you gradually realise your dangerous position. If you have a computer problem for example: first of all there are not much good professionals to know what they are doing secondly they ask you a fortune for just doing nothing. I remember I had to leave my computer in a shop for some technical problems, he just did nothing, absolutely nothing and then asked me to come and pick up the computer, when I got home, I just felt hopeless. Where could I go to complain and how can I prove it. I have already paid and there was no way to claim it back. I decided to move out and sell some of my furniture. The guy from a tender centre came and picked up all my belongings and told me he would sell it. I waited weeks after weeks and had to pay a lot for mobile bill to ring him. But he never sent me back any money. I wrote a complaint to the local court but again if I wanted to do anything I had to pay twice to lawyers and the court itself to solve the problem. As they had no customer to get money from….It was ridiculous. If you sit among them you just feel sick. They just admire themselves and fart on you and then you feel your head is spinning and you have to leave.

We've come here from the UK, too. Excellent move. What you describe calls for a place that isn't too small; unfortunately, there aren't many larger ones about. But what you describe perfectly describes Dunedin and Christchurch. Both are big enough for job opportunities, and you can easily live in breathtaking scenery around them and commute in very comfortably. Dunedin feels like Inverness, in my opinion, and the landscapes around it are unbelievable. If you buy a house on the Otago Peninsula, you get to live in what is probably the most incredible environment on the planet, and you can still be in an elegant town in 20 minutes. You can see my pictures of it by following the link in my profile.

How is wellington Florida

How is wellington Florida?
hey there!, So My Family and i are moving to palm beach Florida in about 1 month.. In wellington to be precise. I've been trying to find some stuff online but its not much. I hear wellington high school is famous for the fights. which isn't too good in my book.. but my parents are making me move so yeah. Also is the work load challenging?.. we go to prep school and MAY be switching to the public school system down there. We are from New York, New York. and There is an over whelming amount of races here. and In Wellington it is predominantly Caucasian or white.. like this beats all other Races by ALOT. We.. We're Black, and my little brother is afraid he will get picked on.down there or not liked because of his skin.. would this be something we would have to worry about? I apologize if I sound ignorant or rub anyone the wrong way but we are very curious on how living is there.

Beef Wellington (or Pate) help please!

Beef Wellington (or Pate) help please!?
I'm cooking Beef Wellington, but I just don't like the taste of the mushroom in the pate. I was thinking about coming out of left field by using a seasoning recipe that I use for Jamaican Jerk Flank Steak, but I'm not sure if it will go well inside of the puff pastry. Will it work? Is there another alternative for the pate/filling to go with the beef?

I am a former chef and you can use chopped cooked spinach, fire roasted peppers, other veg made to resemble the mushroom duxelle, it is up to you, the jerk seasoning sounds interesting, you could even use sausage meat or ground meat made into a meatloaf mix, the trim from the tenderloin, there are variations with chicken, pork, and fish, but sear the meat, and let it cool, if you use an water veg for filling make sure it is as dry as possible or mix some breadcrumbs or flour into them after seasoning. This is one dish with alot of various ways of making it, find one you like and go with it.

How much money per hour do I need to make to survive in Auckland?

depends how you want to live, but if its just enough to live and still go out, and save a little, then id say about 5 or $600 a week if your on your own and in a place on your on or you could get a house share, but yeah just depends on your situation..hope this helped though..
2 :
About $100 a day should do it! so that would be about $20 an hour.
3 :
The average wage of a New Zealand worker is $537 a week. Considering that the average food wage of a New Zealander is $70 week and gas, electricity, mobile phone, Internet and water bill equates to $200 and that other bills such as entertainment equates to about $50 it would advisable to earn over $700 week to live comfortably.
4 :
anything above 18 dollas an hour, thats pretty much average,it should cover a house rent food power and transport, thats if your on your own
5 :
If you work fulltime, the minimum wage should be enough provided you don't have high standards when it comes to living- you can rent a room with in a shared house for as low as 100 dollars per week in Auckland. If you're careful with money, you can get by with around 650 a week, including food, accomodation, etc. Hope that helped.

What should I wear to the Stabes

What should I wear to the Stabes?
I am going on work experience tomorrow and I am going to a stable. I will be there for 7 hours. Here is a list of what was planning to wear. If you don't think it's good, could you please tell me what you think is better . . . Here it is: - Black, thin turtle neck t-shirt - White and light, light blue fleece -Black wellington boots with pink flowers on them - Green Jogging pants. Are those colours okay? Will the horses freak out when they see the colours? Only serious answers please! Thanks in advance!

hum, seems okay. i would go with a polo shirt, jeans and sneakers if you can't wear breeches though. you will be fine. i would try something simple like this: http://www.discountwesternwear.com/images/girls%20kelsey.jpg jeans, a nice shirt (not too nice though, its gonna get dirty!) and sneakers. with this on you will be comfortable and be able to do whatever they throw at you. what will you be doing by the way? riding? mucking? as long as your comfortable and safe you will be fine (one thing though: always wear close toed shoes!).
2 :
OMG!!!! It doesnt matter what the heck you wear as long as its comfortable!! Sturdy shoes too~
3 :
no not at all i normally wear things just like that when i go although if you decide to stay there you could get proper horse things but those are FINE ! dont worry , have a nice time x good luck ! Abby the GSD lover
4 :
Horses don't care what colours you wear, just so you know. But I would wear stuff that you don't care if it gets dirty. And don't wear white. (In my opinion, the horses like to get people dirty, but only if you're gonna be able to see it!) And if you're going to be working there, wear jeans. Jeans are practically regulation barn-wear :P The boots are a good idea, barns are extremely muddy this time of year. Have fun!
5 :
It should be fine, depending on what type of stable it is. If it's a super conservative farm then go with blacks and neutral colors (the turtleneck and fleece should be fine). If it's a pretty laid back place then no one will care. If I have to go to a new barn I usually wear jeans that don't have holes or rips in them, a collared shirt like a polo, a neutral colored jacket (black or my navy and light blue northface), and my muck shoes (black). It's a simple outfit to wear and look professional without a whole lot of effort. Some places do have a dress code though. If you're really unsure, you could just call and ask if they have a dress code. With most places, it's just a dress code for riding attire and not for around the barn wear, so again, my guess it that you should be fine.
6 :
Those colours shouldn't be a problem. I'm curious though as to the flowers on your Wellington boots. Remember to dress in layers because 7 hours is a LONG day and if you're mucking out stalls, it's going to get hot and you'll probably want to lose some of the layers as the day progresses. If you're on the East Coast, it's probably still a bit chilly in the mornings, here in California, we had an 80 degree day yesterday and I've had my front door open since 7AM. Best of luck on your new job and have fun!
7 :
well, i wouldn't wear white, since no matter how clean the stable is you could still get slobbered on by any horse or slip in the mud, anything could happen. Just wear whats comfortable for the weather you have. I would wear jeans since sweatpants can catch on things like haycarts and can get in the way, but i don't know horses to be upset over any colors so that shouldn't matter. have fun!
8 :
what ever you are comfortable with! It really doesn't matter what kind of clothes you wear as long as you aren't afraid to get them dirty. As for your shoes as long as they are covered (no sandles around the farm) you should be okay!
9 :
they should be fine but im not sure about the wellies, if you could wear green or navy or plain black ones but theyre OK i suppose if its short notice. jogging pants??? if at all possible jodpours but theyre fine too if you cant then they should be allright. hope you have a good time.
10 :
It really comes down to what you're comfortable in, the horses will be fine. Jeans and boots are probably your best bet, because you will get dirty. All hands, instructors, and staff at the barns I've ridden at have always worn jeans and padock boots, or Ariat makes a really comfortable riding/hiking work boot called Terrain. Wear easy-to-wash clothes--no dry cleaning, if the barn isn't up-scale and requires breeches or jods. I definitely agree with dressing in layers depending on your location. It sounds like what you've picked will be fine, though. Good Luck!
11 :
horses don't generally freak out over color so you should be ok. just remember that its not a fashion show lol
12 :
This is a work experience you say, so wear what is comfortable to you and warm. The horses do not care what color or fashion that you wear...it is up to you. Have fun
13 :
horses don't FREAK OUT at colors they are color blind they don't see black and white but they also don't see many colors.
14 :
i dusnt mata wot u wear if its sensible...............
15 :
Yeah that seems fine. I just wear black tights (jodphurs or jeans if it's cold) with my tall boots and a collared shirt with a jacket if it's cold. My stables are pretty relaxed and it's normally hot so sometimes I wear shorts and sometimes I wear just a cheap pair of slip on shoes (they're fine to work in).
16 :
You could wear Jodhpurs,Paddock boots, tall boots, polo shirt, belt and some times were a light vest

Best place to live in Wellington

Best place to live in Wellington?
Hi there. I'm in the USA and we are moving to Wellington, NZ with hubby's work. I have never lived there before. I have two primary school aged children and I would ideally like to get them into a good school while living in a safe community. We love the outdoors - parks, beaches so any advice would be great. We don't cope that well with the cold since we've spent 4 winters out of NZ so are there different climates in Wellington? We will have to live in the Upper Hutt for a couple of months and then we would look at buying in an ideal location but my children will have to be enrolled before we leave the States. Unbiased opinions would be great ...

I lived in Korokoro, in the hills by Lower Hutt when I was primary school aged. It really was great. I lived in a great house, right past my fence was this huge park, so I had plenty of room to run around in. My street had many other kids, and I made great friends. And a great view! Try korokoro, or Normandale too, it's great.
2 :
I would recommend Island Bay, Lyall Bay, Miramar, Johnsonville and Tawa. Areas that I would not live in would be Porirua and Naenae.
3 :
Ngaio . I was bought up n Ngaio many years ago. I now live in Australia but last year I returned and I visited 2 schools near Wellington. The Ngaio school children where all well dressed and extremely healthy looking lovely good children . I spoke with a couple of the teachers . They where all very very nice. I felt proud I had been to that school . I also visited another school in a different area the children where sloppy the atmosphere was not of the same standard as Ngaio, Ngaio is only a 15 minute train ride from Wellington . It has a bit of protection from the hills from those awful cold winds that Wellington gets. I love Wellington as I have some very fond memories of there but I choose not to live in such a cold wet place now I'm getting older. If you are prepared to go further out from the City then Rhaumati beach is very nice but the roads can get very busy driving into Wellington at peak times. Although Wellington harbor is lovely I wouldn't want to live to near as some freezing winds come through there .
4 :
TAWA. Yeee yah. (:
5 :
Island bay is supreme family Suburb, it has a village with all nesessities. Its a beach suburb with lots of parks and great schools. Wellington is can get very windy and the weather changes alot. it is almost summer and gets nice and warm but it'll still rain and be cold. i suggest to stock up on winter stuff.
6 :
I really dont like Upper hutt at all its such a boring place to live. Lower Hutt is awesome place to live because its not right in wellington itself but close enough. and has the great Queensgate mall, and the schools are good there also. My father in law lives in Kelson, lower hutt. which is really nice, mother in law lives in Wainuiomata, which is probably not the best place to live as its quite rough area. and i would definatly NOT entertain Porirua or Tawa. but thats my opinion. once your over there you will soon know where the best parts are going to be

Are there good surfing beaches in Wellington, NZ

Are there good surfing beaches in Wellington, NZ?
I'm moving to the Lower Hutt area- I'm hoping I'll be able to surf before work in the mornings, I'm envisaging just driving 10 minutes down the road for a surf- are there any nice surfable beaches around there? I like small 4ft conditions on a shallow sandy break so ideally will find somewhere like that nearby. Thanks!!

How is the job market for economists and finance professionals in New Zealand

How is the job market for economists and finance professionals in New Zealand?
How is the New Zealand economy currently doing and how is the job market in the area of finance? I am from US and I will be doing a PhD in Economics in Wellington. I also want to do some consulting work in accounting and finance while working on my research. Thanks. For Accounting, do you necessarily have to have NZ accounting certification, or a CPA from US will do?

You're going to Victoria University in Wellington? Ask your supervising Professor, he or she is probably best qualified to answer that. It will also depend on whether your visa allows you to work in those fields. Generally though, I would think that's a pretty tight market at the moment. To work in accounting in NZ you would need to have NZ accounting certification. EDIT: About the accounting requirements. You may want to contact the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants for more details. You will need NZ certification for many accountancy roles (which would require an exam) because of the legal aspect. In some cases you may not. The institute will be able to give you full details. Good luck! http://www.nzica.com//AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home1
2 :
At the moment it is poor and limited thanks to the credit crunch/gobal financial crisis. Just like everywhere else. But if you get in the academic circle they will probably be able to network you a job.

Where's the best place to to find a job, Christchurch or Wellington

Where's the best place to to find a job, Christchurch or Wellington?
Me and my girlfriend (she's from japan) are going to NZ for a year on working holiday visas. We want to stay for a while in either Wellington or Christchurch.. which place do you think will be better in terms of finding jobs for both of us and renting somewhere to stay?
Wellington - 3 Answers

Deffianately Wellington, it's economy is considerably stronger than Christchurch's and there's a lot more variety and more service orientated jobs. I would however reccommend Auckland as the best place to find a job out of all those. It's also considerably warmer and most cosmopolitain.
2 :
what are you trained in/skills/qualifications/experience? or just a part time job to fund your travels? the main place to look for a job is www.seek.co.nz so have a look for yourself. there's about 3 times more jobs advertised in wellington than Christchurch on this website. Although I havent spent long in Chch, i would say Wellington is probably better for employment as it is a bigger city (altho still on a japanese scale, small) On the other hand, wellington will be a little more expensive to rent, but on saying that even places in the city centre are reasonable
3 :
Wellington is defiantly a better choice. There are so many job opportunities, and much more to do. There is a great night life, gorgeous waterfront, nice beaches, great restaurants, and shopping all within a walking distance of city center. When I was there on a holiday visa, I signed up with a temp agency. With temp agencies it allows you to work only when you want to. This allows you the opportunity to travel to see other cities or to take a night off when you want to see a rugby match! Anyways... good luck!

Last I knew he moved to Plano texas in 2004 and he was suppose to go to war. Not sure how to find him. His name is Charlie Ware or Charles and he worked at Wellington Park Apartments in lewisville texas..in 2003/4. If anyone can find something out with that info I'd appreciate it. those apartments are no more. They are a different name now. Not the same company anymore.

How much will it cost to do a drive tour of New Zealand

How much will it cost to do a drive tour of New Zealand?
My friend and I are planning to do the 'royal tour' of NZ next Feb. We want to start at the top (Auckland) and work our way down to Wellington. How much do you think it will cost with car hire and accommodation. We plan to stay in NZ for about 14 days. Basically we want to check out as much as we can during this time, especially the scenery like glaciers etc as well as spending a day in Auckland. Cheers
Other - Australia - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You could easily look up car hire. Petrol will probably be your main cost, at about NZ$2 a litre. Accomodation really depends what you're wanting, but a reasonable self catering unit could be ~NZ$80 a night. And I'm not sure about glaciers in the North Island! It only snows near the centre where the mountains are, well, usually only on the mountains. Glaciers and scenery I think are in the South Island.
2 :
Calculate with the following numbers: 1. One litre of petrol costs NZ$ 2.00 at present, and your car will most likely require about 8 litres per 100km if it's an average rental car, like a Toyota Corolla 1.8 for example. 2. Your average travel speed in NZ is usually 60km/h - meaning, that's as far as you can get in one hour without breaking any speed records. If you reduce your driving to about 5 hours a day, that means you should allow for an overnight stop every 300km, and it would be just enough to tour NZ's North island extensively within a two-week timeframe. 3. A rental car will normally cost you around NZ$ 60 to 120 per day, depending on choice. 4. A motel room runs between NZ$ 70 and NZ$ 160 a night, but they often have kitchens, so you can save on eating out. 5. Eating a proper three-course meal with alcoholic drinks in a nice restaurant will run you as high as NZ$ 50 to 80 per person. If that's too much for you, there are ways of eating cheaper, especially the corner stores, called "Dairies" here, are a very cheap source of pretty yum food which is more filling and less expensive than fast food chain food. We're talking pies and sausage rolls, sandwiches now. 6. You can find accommodation for as little as NZ$ 25 a night per person in backpackers' hostels, of which there are heaps down here. I hope these numbers helped you a little. Have fun on your trip!

We will be working in Lower Hutt, but willing to travel up to 1hour to comute. 2 :
Hi Again Paraparamu is a beautiful area but if you are looking for a great spot by the water I would suggest Days Bay. This is alovely area. If you want to live in Town then again I suggest Karori as the schools are the best in this area and again its a lovely safe place. Most areas in Wellington are indeed safe, however many people suggest that you avoid living in certain areas such as Porirua, and Naenae. These tend to be lower socio economic areas. Certain parts of the city itself are more student areas such as Newtown and Brooklands. My top areas which aer affordable and have good services and are safe would be Karori, Kandallah, Kelburn, Wadestown or possibly Island Bay. Try the website below for piccies of houses for sale to give you an idea of the standadrs and prices. Good Luck
3 :
I know nothing about Wellington, but if you havnet already looked on TradeMe...try that, it has good homes on there Real Estate section. Good luck finding a home :)

Paraparumu is nice take a look around Rhaumati beach. The weather is so much nicer there but the traffic can be a bit trying during commuter hours. I was bought up in Ngaio and feel so privileged having had a childhood there. The school is wonderful. I recently went back for a holiday and visited 2 schools outside of Wellington. The ngaio school had healthy happy looking children a complete contrast to the other school i visited where the children looked scruffy.

What is Wellington, NZ like to live in?
I want to migrate somewhere - either Australia or New Zealand. I've lived in Oz before so I know the culture, but what about New Zealand? I'm thinking Wellington would be a cool place to live. I want to live somewhere laid back, cool, with loads of cafes/ pubs/ music. I work as an RN so good hospitals and working conditions too. And hot men. What is the cost of living like there?

Great place to live. Good lifestyle and nightlife with a lot of cafes and music. The cost of living here is affordable and with many different ethnicities within the city so race is not a problem. Hot men I don't know cause I'm a guy I have to say people here are just normal and very friendly but you do get idiots once in a while.
2 :
Its just been voted 5th best city in the world to live in by lonely planet, so its pretty cool :-)
3 :
Wellington is pretty sweet. I live here and today was a stunning day! The hospital isn't too bad, my uncle worked at the hospital and it's been called a bit unorganised, but there's Hutt Hospital, Kenepuru and smaller practices. Wellington has more restaurants and cafes and pubs per head than New York. There's always lots of live music. I've lived here for 3 years and I think it's a great city for families, young people, working professionals etc. I went to Scorching Bay last weekend, it was so nice. There's lots of places to go and visit. Cost of living isn't cheap, compared to other cities. I pay $160 a week for a 5 bedroom flat in town. Public transport is expensive and so is parking. I'd say it's cheaper than Auckland, but more expensive that Christchurch, Hamilton or Dunedin. We are the 'coolest little capital' =] ...
4 :
Welly is a great city. Creative, cosmopolitan, and community all at the same time. But it gets very windy. I lived there a long time. In the end, that was what did it for me. I moved north.

Who can tell me what kind of person Sir Arthur Wellsley(The Duke of Wellington) really was

Who can tell me what kind of person Sir Arthur Wellsley(The Duke of Wellington) really was?
I'm looking at anything which can give me true picture of the man as a military tactician and as a human being. The books give me the standard outlook of his military life and family, but what i really want is the interesting stuff i.e. Was he really the emotionless man he's portrayed as in books and films? How much respect did he have for enemy commanders and Napoleon himself? Did he have any skeletons in the closet not many historians know about?(if that's possible!) Are there any quirky anecdotes which would be interesting enough to convince teenagers and young adults to read my work on the him and the Penninsular War? All your answers are a big help and a majority of the info i didn't know, i only wish others out there had the same passion for Wellington and that era as much as myself. It wouldn't be fair of me to choose a best answer so i'll put it to a vote. Thanks for everything.

I think that you can get a feel of what a person is like from their quotes. Here is a link to Wellington's quotes page. I don't usually recommend Wikipedia, but there is some interesting stuff on the second link. Also another link which I find interesting>
2 :
Here are some oddments. Wellingtonia, (Sequoia gigantea) the famous Californian tree species, honours Wellington....... Wellington visited `General Tom Thumb` several times when the 25" midget was performing as a stage act for the showman PT Barnum. The midget after performing dressed as Napoleon, was asked by Wellington, "what were you thinking while you performed", " Sir ", he replied " I was thinking of the loss of the Battle of Waterloo"....... Lord Winchelsea after accusations and lengthy written correspondence, faced Wellington in a duel in Battersea Fields watched by gardeners `amongst the cabbages`. Using borrowed duelling pistols Wellington shot wide, his opponent fired into the ground and presented an apology to the Duke. Winchelsea`s second, Lord Falmouth, had agreed to act as second, just as long as Winchelsea promised not to shoot England`s greatest Hero......... Prior to Waterloo Napoleon had described Wellington as "a bad General," and the English as" bad troops, this affair will be a picnic"....... At Waterloo Wellington lead his troops with the cry, ."Damn it" ! " In for a penny , in for a pound".
3 :
I think one thing to keep in mind when studying Wellington is to remember what an intensely private individual he was despite being a celebrity of his age. He requested that his correspondents burn his letters to keep them private after reading them (thankfully they didn't or else he'd be even harder to figure out). My favorite biographies of Wellington are the biography by Hibbert and the two-volume set by Elizabeth Longford. I'd also recommend Mrs. Arbuthnot's journals and "Notes on Conversations With the Duke of Wellington" by the Earl Stanhope. The picture of him that I personally get is of someone who was taciturn but who had a sardonic sense of humor; indeed, his snark is one of his best selling points. He did respect Napoleon as a general but did not think that the emperor was a gentleman and as for anecdotes - here are a couple: When he was older, Wellington once came upon a young boy crying in his garden. Upon inquiring the reason for the child's distress, he was told that the boy was to go to school in a few days and that he would be forced to leave his pet toad behind and he was afraid that the toad would perish without his care. The Duke immediately declared that he would see that the toad was taken care of and a few days after the child returned to school, he received a letter presenting "F.M. the Duke of Wellington's compliments to Master --, and he is pleased to inform him that his toad is well." In a similar vein, he once personally delivered a bouquet of flowers to a little girl who had been snubbed by her classmates, driving up in his coach for that special purpose. Then there's the reply he once gave to one of the peninsular officers in Portugal who requested leave to go to Lisbon - he granted the leave for 48 hours only as "That is as long as any reasonable man should wish to spend in bed with the same woman". And, finally, there's the story of his being accosted once in the street by a man claiming to have served with him in Spain, seeking a handout - Wellington replied "Oh? And when were you in Spain?" To which the man replied "1803, your Grace" prompting the Duke to shake his head and walk away, saying "Oh no, that will never do." He's definitely a complex individual but a fascinating one. I'm not exactly sure if there's any real LACK of interest in him by people; I know several people who share my admiration for him - it's just that Wellington's fans are a little less vocal and obnoxious than Boney's. Oh, and one last thing - if you want dirt on his personal life, try Patrick Delaforce's "Wellington the Beau" a delightful, gosspiy read that isn't nearly as scholarly as a biography.

I picked it up off of Craigslist for 200. All the keys work and everything but it might be out of tune. The only place I could find a model number was on the inside near the strings it is stanped in large writing 194081. Hi - Renting tends to be a bit tidal in Wellington, at certain times of the year it can be impossible to find a place and at others it can be easy. You will be arriving as most of the students are heading home for summer so fingers crossed you find a place. I would keep a look on www.trademe.co.nz at the flatmates wanted section and also through the classified section in the dominion post on a Wednesday and Saturday. People tend to sign up for 12 month leases and they often start to expire in Feb so you may get lucky subleasing from someone over those four months. Good luck.

Most of the time - like 99% - they are scrap metal. But, before you toss something that may be of value, check eBay or put it up for sale. I sell crap and a lot of it is junk. I think it is worth something and it turns out I've wasted all of my time. Believe it or not though, I still look like an idiot. Satisfy yourself and check eBay or an antique store. And if for some odd reason it does turn out to be worth something and you toss it, screw it. Don't beat yourself up. Have a gin and tonic.

What are the safest neighborhoods in Wellington

What are the safest neighborhoods in Wellington?
Which neighborhoods in Wellington are the most child-friendly, where you see school-age children playing together outside? Also, since NZ has a law where kids under 14 should always be supervised, does this mean that parents are always chained to their children when they go out and play? I would really like to know how this works. Thanks!

1 :
ooh, um, if u like lots of hills, earthquakes and crazy winds, then live in wellington. Auckland is better though. the law means that no kid aged under 14 can be left alone at home, otherwise they are with someone or in eye distance of an adult when in public.
2 :
Wellington is actualy ranked the best place in NZ for familys. Well first that comes to mind is Khandallah, well because i was brought up here it's certainly one of the safest and nicest! Johnsonville is also a good suburb.. They're near schools. I have a primary school few minutes walk away, and a bus stop also a few mins away, train station 10mins away, intermediate and college 25mins walk away. But if you decided to school in town they can easily catch train/bus. They could play at the local school.. and park. Houses around here usualy have good yards, mine is huge. Our house is up a big path far away from the street. Also in my street there is lots of little kids, the houses closer to the road i always see playing outside. So i suggest Khandallah or even Johnsonville. which is the suburb next door. Also they're betwen Porirua, the Inner city and Lower hutt, so you won't have to drive to far for shopping or work, etc. And for the law.. I would say basicaly means you're with them and have your eye on them, so that you're aware that they're not wondeirng off, or getting them self in danger and that they're safe and you do not leave them home alone or even alone in a car.. etc.
3 :
Love the Ngaio croften Downs area next to Khandallah. Yes your children can play outside. Visit the ngaio school. You will find happy healthy children there. Ngaio is only about 10 minutes away from Wellington Central and can be a little shelterd from those terrible winds Wellington gets. If you don't mind being out a little then Rhaumati Paraparaumu are lovely areas always a little warmer there. .
4 :
The neighbourhood around Khandallah is reportedly a pretty safe one, but I can't help you with the rest of your question.
5 :
Another suburb which hasn't been mentioned is Whitby, out in Porirua (they wish they weren't part of it). Almost zero crime rate, but somewhat on the expensive side. As for supervision, it's more to do with babysitting. Kids are allowed out, to the park, ride their bikes, etc without an adult being there.
6 :
I agree with Proud NZer, Wellington is rated the best area. I live in Titahi Bay which is just outside Welly and the roads, parks, beach etc is awesome. Kids are always out riding bikes, skateboards etc. It's a real Walker-friendly place. Schools and public transport are all close too. I lived in Johnsonville for many years and found that area to be just the same. So I would recommend Welly!! Parents don't have to be chained to their under 14 kids...just don't leave them at home by themselves.

Does anyone want to live in Wellington New Zealand

Does anyone want to live in Wellington New Zealand?
I have a flat if anyone would like it. Its a 3 bedroom flat which if you want could fit 6 people easily. It is very big with 2 living areas, a storage room, a bathroom, separate toilet, and kitchen. Each bedroom has windows that get the morning sun and has a huge wardrobe. In the kitchen there is an oven and fridge/freezer with a space for a microwave. In the bathroom there is a shower and bath with sink and heated towel rail. Comes with washing machine and dryer. Is on the bus route to train station, both university's, and several places around wellington. Each room has a rent of $165 but if you share it it comes to $82.50per week. The lease is until the end of feb but you can extend it if you want to.I really need people to fill this flat; so if you want a few months living/working/holidaying in wellington with mates and need a place to stay contact me!!! Ive advertised it almost everywhere. Help!

Where do I start in finding IT work in New Zealand? I'm looking into emmigrating from the USA with my family.?
Where do I start in finding IT work in New Zealand? I'm looking into emmigrating from the USA with my family. New Zealand seems like a great place to live and has a great quality of life which I want for my family. Mostly looking at Tauranga, Napier, Hamilton, Palmerston, but perhaps even Wellington or Invercargill or Dunedin. We aren't big city types. :)

Everything depends of your qualifications or if you are really available to work hard. Do not go to small cities otherwise you will find yourself and your family working in a farm. I did that before and i hate it. Queenstown is a good place if you available to do hospitality jobs.
2 :
You can look for jobs online www.seek.co.nz and trademe.co.nz go to jobs section Just a couple of job search websites in new zealand. Hope they help.
3 :
New Zealand has a website that allows you to do a search for jobs all over the country. Here's the link: www.seek.co.nz Secondly, here's some info on the places you'd like to live (I'm a Kiwi): Tauranga: Nice environment for kids and teenagers. Nice place to live generally. A few really cool things to do if you're the outdoors type. I have not lived here myself but I have been there to stay with friends. Napier: Great place to live. I have lived here myself actually! I would strongly recommend moving to Napier. Hamilton: If you're a farmer, then great. But Hamilton itself is extremely boring in my opinion (yes, I have lived here). The only goof thing is that it's located only about an hour and a half away from Auckland City (where all the fun is!) I'm not sure how old your kids are, but they probably would find Hamilton a bit boring. If you're into hiking you may find some fun there, however. Palmerston: Have never been there, but from what I've heard, it's extremely average. Even Hamilton would probably be better than Palmerston! Wellington: Pretty cool. I have been here. It is a city though! Invercargill: Haven't been here, but I know that not a lot happens here! Dunedin: Nice place. Some of my family lives down here. Very cold! The places you have chosen would be far easier to find IT work than most other places (although I'm not sure how great the jobs are in Palmerston). And last of all, good job choosing New Zealand to raise your kids! It is a great country, and is ranked the number one safest in the world (with the US falling somewhere way, way down that list). Good luck here in New Zealand! :)
4 :
Tauranga, bay of plenty. That's where i live!!! Lol. Great choice there! as for the question, go to: http://www.seek.co.nz/. Our most popular jobs site.
5 :
lucky you arent big city types, because theres only 1 city and its small emmigrating to new zealand is a bad idea, it doesnt have a great quality of life, if you want to go to a western country with great quality of life you would move to Australia which has a much lower crime rate than NZ, then you will be able to have spare money after you have paid rent and food for the week, whereas in New Zealand most of your pay goes on rent..and the pay is small anyway and if you have family, you will probably find yourself stuck in a small town like you mentioned with your kids growing up and moving to Australia as soon as they turn 19 (if your kids grow up in australia they will be surfie/sporty types, if they grow up in NZ they will become wannabe rapper/gangstas with no good friends) forget about going on vacation too, because you'll need a few thousand to leave New Zealand to visit somewhere else, and thats with just you on vacation with no family

The success of a restaurant is much more complex than the cuisine. Location, staff, quality of food etc are more important. You need to do some research and check your finances. I think people would eat there. Wellington reasonably diverse and people here eat in different restaurants. ....
2 :
Indonesian? Um maybe, only if there are enough people that like indonesian people and or your cuisines taste great. But make sure you have lots of money to run your own business first

How do Universities in New Zealand work

How do Universities in New Zealand work?
I'm wanting to go to University when I turn 20. Because I'll be going at that age, I know I won't need any other requirements to get in. However, I don't know what I'll need to start off with when I get there. I'll be going to Massey University in Wellington, and I'm wanting to go for the highest possible qualification in Clinical Psychology. Could somebody help me out, just explaining how it all works? I've tried reading through the website, but it's rather confusing..

Massey University's website is very hard to read through. It is quite text heavy. My suggestion is to contact the student recruitment officers via their 0800 number. They are employed to assist all prospects with the information they need to make the right decision into how you can enrol into the course of your choice. If I can also mention, Victoria has a pretty awesome Psychology dept and if you are still searching, they are definitely worth a look.

You must get a job suitable to your qualification to get residency. You've simply got to apply yourself. Shop yourself out to agencies (including temping, they often turn into permanent roles), you've got to walk the streets and keep doing it until you find a job. Make it a fulltime job to find a job. Savvy?

You have 6 months to look for a job so start looking now. I suggest you look in the smaller towns and regions like Whangarei, Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, Manawatu & Wairarapa, also the south island - Nelson, Timaru and and Invercargill. Stay away from the 6 main university cities. (Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston Nth, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin). You have a much higher chance of getting a job outside of the main centres as long as the work permit is legal.
2 :
There is a major glut of finance people worldwide, not just NZ. The job market is terrible, there is a huge glut of labor, and you are competing with experienced Kiwis when you have no experience. Employers are sharply reducing hiring foreign workers. They have ample supplies of experienced people in their own country. They are on tight budgets and cannot or will not spend money to get people visas, plus they do not want the hassles and paperwork. Also, they only want experienced people because they have no time, money or staff to train you. No experience, no job. It is getting very tough to get work outside one's own country due to costs and hassles. Plus, people desperate for work in their own country are starting to get really irate over jobs taken by foreigners. Accept the fact that you might not find work where you want it, and that you might be a target if you do. How to overcome the lack of experience required today is going to be a real challenge for you anyway. To have to overcome multiple strikes against any application you submit is probably fultile, certainly not a cost effective use of your time and whatever education & abilities you might have.

How do I find film work in Wellington, New Zealand?
Hi I am looking for any type ( pre-production, production, post) work in film in Wellington New Zealand. I have been applying to companies but everywhere says they have no vacancies. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film/video from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and I have had alot of experience handling cameras and with film equipment. I don't know what to do next, anyone have any helpful hints on how to land a job working in TV or film? Thanks for the responses! I I just moved over as well. I would say there are few options. First Weta is hiring sometimes it depends there are alot of studios outside of Auckland. Get a hold of the film directory guide T he main industry 'job postings' that I have seen are in the email updates sent out by Onfilm http://www.onfilm.co.nz/ . I believe however that there is a small subscription fee to receive this is if you don't subscribe to their hard copy magazine. Details at http://www.profile.co.nz/shopping/details.asp?pubcode=ONF . Another organsation that may be able to advise you on where to find job listings is SPADA http://www.spada.co.nz/home/home.html . The Crew Booking Agency may be able to help you as well http://www.crewbooking.co.nz/ . A good overall resource is The Databook http://www.databook.co.nz/ - again I believe you have to pay to access all the data - but at least check out their online links for a good overview of the scene here. Occasionally there are screen production vacancies on The Big Idea website http://www.thebigidea.co.nz . I have attached one recent listing http://www.thebigidea.co.nz/modules.php?op=modload&name=Job_Listings&file=index&func=view&job_id=1788 . book. Cathy Randall is very helpful for Migrants coming over here. I am a 3D Animator I have started in Auckland and am moving down to Wellington. Because you do post production check out companies like Oktober they did the post for Lord of the rings. I will be honest it is very hard going here. Try Cathy she has really helped me out and prompted me to move down. I would also say do not live in Auckland. Coming from the States as well it is not a great place if you can just try her and see what happens give it a go they are also opening alot of Film Companies outside Auckland in Hamilton. I know that 30 days is currently being filmed. The problem is it is still really small here. Cath Randall @ Possitively Wellington Business I will say it is very beautiful here and heard Wellington is choice. Cheers, Dara
2 :
Unfortunately there is a large pool of film people already here and most of us are locals. We tend to be cheaper to hire than Americans and all the major studios are a pretty tight ship. We also have a large film school industry and you'd have a problem getting a work permit as we have plenty of NZ applicants. If you post your email I will contact you privately. I run my own small production business.

Yes if you really wanted to - I mean it's only a 30 min flight each way ... it's probably the taxis in Wellington that will kill ya price wise.......... Job would have to pay very good to do this. I was going to get welly boots these ones: http://www.pricelessshoes.co.uk/webapp/w... and wear them to work when rainy season comes. but I'd only wear them in the car and the walk to work and change when I get to work. Will people laugh at me or think I'm unprofessional? I only want to keep my feet dry and warm. Should I get black or white ones instead? I work in an office.

I see no problem with wearing Wellington boots to work. Surely it is better to have warm, dry feet than cold soggy ones all day. Nobody, unless they put a secret camera in your car could laugh at you and call you unprofessional. I wear odd socks because it amuses me and amuses people at work when they notice. I am currently training to be a Children's Nurse.

Some people work really well in Readings, but there's a whole pile who don't seem to give a damn. In regards to the Twilight poster, you'll probably need to wait until it ends its run before they make them available. Paramount used to do a yearly clear out sale of all their posters, Reading should try the same.

wellington for singles

wellington for singles?
hi! i'm considering moving to new zealand, but no particular place yet. however, since i'm in the IT field, chances are i'll be moving to wellington. unfortunately, i read somewhere that wellington is one of the most, if not the most, boring place in nz and in the world in general. is this true? can't say much as i've never been to nz. what is it like for singles to live and work in wellington? are there lots of cafes, bars open late at night? are people friendly? are there lots of places for recreation and meeting people? how about adventure activies nearby? generally, is it fun living there? thanks! thanks everyone for the answers. :) although auckland seems to be more alive, according to my research, IT jobs are more present in wellington, so i was just thinking i would end up in welly. though personally, i think i would love auckland too. let's see. i still have the rest of the year to think about this anyway. :)

Going out there when its night, theres so many bright lights and the atmostphere is great! Its hard to say if its boring because it really depends on your taste. Im only 16 so I havent been able to experience the clubs but I would definitely say give it a go cause from what ive heard its great. And if you don't like it, you can always move right? :)

Hi there, Wellington is basically in the centre of the North and South Islands and I found it very friendly while living there.... It is great with it's night life and is just over the strait from the South Island which has lots of fantastic outdoor activities..... However, Auckland is the biggest city in NZ, with lots of big companies and has a shortage of single guys.... it has a huge amount of bars and cafes, and is warmer and more laid back than Wellington.....There a lots of water activities, because of all the beaches and are day trips away from a big amount of outdoor activities....so it's a fun place to live! Out of the two cities I would personally choose Auckland. And there are lots of other fantastic towns and cities in NZ...! Either way, I'm sure you will enjoy your NZ experience!

if your speakers do not work, just plug a pair of headphones into the place where you plug your speakers on the back of the tower of the computer. http://tvshack.net/tv_shows/One_Tree_Hill/season_2/episode_23/ Brooke claims she's not upset Lucas kept amorous mementos of Peyton, as she wants friendship, not romance, with him, but he considers declaring she's his true love. Nathan justly mistrusts whether Lucas is finished trapping Dan when he sees him in the office. Deb is welcomed home by Dan announcing they're a family again now Nathan moves back in, but later she tells Nathan she wants him to go to Highflyers as coach advises, she didn't get on pills because he moved out, and they decide to walk out together, for good. Lucas tells Karen she shouldn't mind him and go to Andy in New Zealand alone. Peyton discovers she was interviewed by a phony reporter Ellie. Lucas shows Deb he has enough on his black money to bring Dan down, but when she announces Dan she's leaving, he points out the business is in her name, so she would risk the same jail term; she gets back on pills and asks Nathan to wait, he shows Lucas it was all faked as a test which he failed and is therefore thrown out, without the college fund -which was real- and stops paying his heart medication. Searching for Lucas' proof on Dan, Nathan finds proof of his trip to Haley, and cancels their friendship. Peyton and Dan get major surprises, and Nathan... [from IMDB]
2 :
Ok, so, in the second season finale.....here we go.... it shows Nathan walking into his parents house with his luggage and then the phone rings. Deb goes to go get it and Nathan opens the door and Haley is standing there...and then it fades out. Dan is (ok this is part of the 3rd season) Dan is not present because turns out when the phone rings its actually someone telling Deb that Dan is in a dealership fire. So, then Lucas is there (at the dealersip fire) and he sees it go on fire and so then he goes in and saves Dan. Then he approaches Peyton on the beach and says "so i guess its just you and me this summer huh?" and then they hug...actually she hugs him and he askes her whats wrong and then she says nothing but then she finally admits she cant be at her house alone, so she asks him to stay with her, and then when they get to her house in her bedroom they hear a siren and hes like "I did something tonight Peyton, and i cant take it back." and then it fades out, but thats were he tells her that he saved Dan from the fire. Ok, so then with Brooke and Lucas, they are in the room and Lucas kisses her, and then shes like "i hop that was a goodbye kiss" and then hes like "I love you" and then the cab is like outside so she just leaves (cuz i mean she has too) and then Lucas and Karen start talking and shes going through her closet and shes like "we dont have enough money for two plane tickets" and then lucas goes "yeah but we hav enough for one. Ok so thats te smallest summary possible....hope i helped
