You must get a job suitable to your qualification to get residency. You've simply got to apply yourself. Shop yourself out to agencies (including temping, they often turn into permanent roles), you've got to walk the streets and keep doing it until you find a job. Make it a fulltime job to find a job. Savvy?

You have 6 months to look for a job so start looking now. I suggest you look in the smaller towns and regions like Whangarei, Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, Manawatu & Wairarapa, also the south island - Nelson, Timaru and and Invercargill. Stay away from the 6 main university cities. (Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston Nth, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin). You have a much higher chance of getting a job outside of the main centres as long as the work permit is legal.

There is a major glut of finance people worldwide, not just NZ. The job market is terrible, there is a huge glut of labor, and you are competing with experienced Kiwis when you have no experience. Employers are sharply reducing hiring foreign workers. They have ample supplies of experienced people in their own country. They are on tight budgets and cannot or will not spend money to get people visas, plus they do not want the hassles and paperwork. Also, they only want experienced people because they have no time, money or staff to train you. No experience, no job. It is getting very tough to get work outside one's own country due to costs and hassles. Plus, people desperate for work in their own country are starting to get really irate over jobs taken by foreigners. Accept the fact that you might not find work where you want it, and that you might be a target if you do. How to overcome the lack of experience required today is going to be a real challenge for you anyway. To have to overcome multiple strikes against any application you submit is probably fultile, certainly not a cost effective use of your time and whatever education & abilities you might have.
