letter to potential host family!

letter to potential host family!?
Guten Tag Gastfamilie! My name is XX from New Zealand. My greatest wish is to spend time in Germany. I’m looking forward to try new things and immerse myself in a family, community and culture. As we don’t even know each other yet, I’ll try to describe myself, my life in New Zealand and what I want to get out of my time in Germany. I live in a city called Lower Hutt. Lower Hutt is very multi-cultural, especially the suburb where my school is. As a matter of fact, if you walk around my school you could hear up to five languages. Unfortunately the only language I speak fluently is English. Lower Hutt is a 25-minute drive form New Zealand’s capital- Wellington. Wellington is a small but very cultivated city, which suits me perfectly. I live with my mother, X. She is most likely the kindest, most loving person I know. I tell her everything that’s going on in my life, so she trusts me because we have no secrets and she knows I am a good. However my mother and I are like fire and ice so of course we don’t always see eye-to-eye. Also I have a Brother, I get along with him very well even though he is 12 years older then me. He has lived with us off and on for the past five years after leaving the army and has been my best friend since I was 12. We have quite similar personalities. He would always take me out and I would hang out with him and his friends but now his girlfriend and him had a baby and he lives with her. My mother and I don’t really like his girlfriend and we don’t think she likes us as they don’t come over very often. I go to a small school of 700 students, which I really love. I take Maths, English, German, History and Science. Alas I can’t stand Science so I am dropping it for economics in 2011. English and German are my favourite subjects. I do quite well at school. After I finish school I want to go to university and study German, and perhaps some sort of business subject. I think that when I grow up I want to work in fashion (marketing, writing, or directing) and be a entrepreneur. I can’t wait to see what it’s like at a different school! In the winter I play hockey and netball for school and in the summer I go to the gym. I also have a job at a fish and chip store, which I work three nights a week at. It’s difficult for me to summarise what I do in my spare time because I don’t do the same thing all the time. Sometimes I go to gigs, or parties, or to the library, or to the mall. But mostly in my spare time I like to go window-shopping, go to the beach, watch movies with friends or just try anything new. But I don’t have that much spare time in between school, sport, work and eating (I kid) Oh! And I enjoy cooking, maybe I could cook you some NZ food sometime. I associate with the Baptist church. I know most Europeans aren’t at all religious, which is fine with me- I don’t come from a Christian family- it’s something I do independently. My favourite things include foreign cinema, indie music and fashion. I’m crazy about fashion. I enjoy ready and I don’t mind animals, so if you have animals that’s fine. I don’t like mushrooms. When all else fails, will always enjoy observing new places and environments. And I don’t smoke. Oh and I’m not allergic to anything. Like me, my friends are quite intellectual, fun, honest and happy people. We are not as up and down as normal teenagers even though we are all completely into different things. In contrast to my friends, I am the more Free-spirited one who’ll try, do and say what I please, even things others may consider challenging. I also have a stronger sense of identity. I know who I am and I know what I want. However at times I can be a bit presumptuous but I’m working on it. I’m talkative, open-minded and have an opinion on most things, which I GENEROUSLY volunteer to conversation quite regularly ;) I want to go to Germany to experience a new kind of living. To lots try new things, take opportunities and go outside my comfort zone. I’m not frightened about getting home sick, or missing my friends and family as I know I am not shy and will be able to make friends and bond with others easily and have the time of my life. Besides, I am not afraid of things like that, I am not afraid of new things. My biggest fear about coming to Germany is that I wont be able to communicate properly and people will think I’m stupid. I know it’s silly. I do have realistic expectations though, I know that it will be hard at first and I may get sick of saying ‘langsamer bitte’ but with your help and patience my vocab and ability will grow. I just will need to get out there and speak speak speak! I hope I have conveyed who I am well in this letter. I can’t believe I’m going to Germany, I am so lucky to be coming over, let alone live with a family for six months. It’s such a huge opportunity and I live in NZ and am going to Germany for six months next year. I got a scholarship so I'm super happy but I am having trouble sounding grateful and making my letter flow. Can anyone help please. It conveys WHO I AM perfectly it just doesn't flow right. Any suggestions would be lovely.

The letter is good except in all honesty I think you are putting in some personal things that are just too "personal" for a first letter. I have copied and pasted the points I think you should save for later. Sometimes "too much" personal information at first can be "overload". Leave out the portions I copies and pasted and it will be plenty of information about yourself and then they can get to know the real you when you stay with them. I know you will enjoy your visit. Good luck. live with my mother, X. She is most likely the kindest, most loving person I know. I tell her everything that’s going on in my life, so she trusts me because we have no secrets and she knows I am a good. I need help with an English essay that I got Not Achieved for

I need help with an English essay that I got Not Achieved for?
I've never done this badly, and I was shocked by my marks as I usually achieve with a merit or excellence. This is the first English essay that I've handed in this year, and the result was NA (Not Achieved) - apparently I didn't answer the question properly. Can you please help me understand what I'm doing wrong, and give me advice (thoroughly), explaining things clearly and simply. =) Thanks a lot! Here it is: Essay: Describe one character or individual that you admired or disliked in the text. Explain how the writer made you admire or dislike this character or individual. In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, a character who gained my admiration was Christopher. I admired him because throughout the course of the story, he showed courage and determination whilst fighting his way through his disadvantaged life. Not only did Christopher pluck up the courage to face his wildest nightmares – talking to strangers -, he found order and stability by solving emotional problems on his own. Standing up for himself and preventing others from manipulating his life was another great change in Christopher’s character, which I valued him for. I think Mark Haddon has showed us that people with Asperger’s Syndrome are often taken for granted, and that they are able to show strength as an individual. The first reason I admired Christopher as a character is because despite his fears, he managed to ask his neighbours whom he considered to be “strangers” about the death of Wellington. Talking to strangers was one of Christopher’s greatest difficulties, for he did not understand the emotions and expressions of other human beings. He said “talking to other people in our street was brave. But if you are going to do detective work you have to be brave, so I had no choice.” This displays Christopher’s development in braveness, and I admired him for stepping out of his comfort zone to ask strangers if they knew who murdered Wellington. Christopher, who always struggled with emotions, found order and stability in his life by experiencing the challenge to solve emotional problems on his own, another very admirable step forwards. When Christopher was at the train station, after discovering that his mother was alive, he was very emotionally unstable and overwhelmed by the knowledge he had just been given. However, instead of groaning and attempting to forget about the problem in the hope that it would overcome him, Christopher cleared his mind by solving mathematical equations and drawing maps in his brain. He said “I couldn’t think because there were too many other things in my head, so I did a maths problem to make my head clearer” which highlights the courage he had to figure out his own emotional problems, instead of just logical ones. For Christopher to show such strength, in a complex situation, was very admirable. Mark Haddon also made me proud of Christopher, when he managed to make decisions about his life by himself, something that people diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome struggle with. During the scene when Christopher discovers the letters from his mother and that his father killed Wellington, he expressed that he was frightened and said “I had to get out of the house”. Despite his father’s wishes for him to stay and sort everything out, Christopher “formulated a plan” to go to London and live with his mother, which proved to be challenging, as he had never travelled long distances on his own. However, he carried out this plan and gained my admiration for taking the courage to make vital decisions of his own and work his way around the disagreement of others. In conclusion, Mark Haddon led me to admire Christopher for many reasons. Firstly, Christopher plucked up the courage to have conversations with strangers, which was turning over a new leaf for him. Secondly, Christopher showed strength in the emotional field, by dealing with his mental breakdown over his mother by using means of order and stability. Thirdly, he made vital decisions of his own whilst under pressurized circumstances, showing Christopher’s grip of control over his life. All of these changes in Christopher’s character forced me to consider him as a boy of great strength and courage, despite his disability – which is something that we should all admire. Hi, thanks for all the answers so far! My teacher wrote a few comments on the page: "Link to wider themes of the text" (at the end of the second paragraph). "How does M Haddon make you admire Christopher" (on the side of the third paragraph). "Go further" (after "disagreement of others. " at the end of the 4th paragraph"). "Unfortunately, I cannot give you an achieved as you have not answered the question in full" at the end. She circled the words "one character", "you admired" , "how" and "writer" in the Essay question up the top. She also circled the word "admiration" in the opening sentence to my intro. Thanks again :)

"Explain how the writer made you admire or dislike this character or individual" You do not give examples of how the writer presents the charcter, just how the character behaves in the novel. For example, "The first reason I admired Christopher as a character is because despite his fears, he managed to ask his neighbours whom(who* neighbors wouldn't be him) he considered to be “strangers” about the death of Wellington." Haven't read this novel so this will be created, "Haddon creates the feeling of admiration for Christopher when Christopher gathers the courage to ask about Wellington's death. For example, Haddon expresses Christophers' bravery when he says, "Christopher boldy walks over to the strangers despite his fears. " Much like many people with a disablilty they may be shy...." U get the idea. EDIT: That sounded bad edited.
2 :
I think you have explained why you admired Christopher, but not HOW the writer controlled you in this way, ie "made you" admire him. Also you haven't really described Christopher, for instance you didn't mention that he had autism, or that he was unusual in other ways too. Why were the chapters numbered in that peculiar way?

Hi I can't believe this but I was also studying this book last term. However as much as I would like to help you it is hard without knowing what your teacher had to say is there anyway you could post that. Because what you have written seems very good and indepth. So if you could please include that I could help you further

Hi there, oh that must be a nightmare for you. Well I skimmed your essay and did find that it did not really address the question and it did not have an essay structure. You need to look at the text in much more detail, explore the themes, language, linguistic devices etc. I haven't read this book so I can't really give you much pointers to go off. In general when looking at a story you should comment on; the characters persona - what kind of a person they are. themes - general ones would be religion, science, morality, life, death, trust, gender representation etc look at the langauge the characters use - comment on this, as it shows you fully understand the character. As for structure - always have an introduction, middle, and conclusion. the introduction and conclusion should be interesting and to the point. Intro - highlight what you will be doing in the essay and what you will look at. middle - comment on the caharcter you like conclusion - highlight what you have done, what you found and what YOU think amkes this character work or good. these are just general points...you can email me for more help if you feel you need to.

It's not always clear how to begin looking for a job, I was in a quandary during the last couple of weeks when I was job hunting, until I discovered the resource in the box below that gives sensible tips. I soon got myself going down the correct route, and in a couple of weeks after a couple of interviews I secured a really good job.

It sounds very thorough to me. I've noticed on google maps it now lists the names of businesses on their physical location. Might help. Are there a few things that you would prefer to do? Why not start with those rather than just at the beginning of a street. You want to like what you do for work, makes it more enjoyable to go. Good luck.

craigslist just full of scammers and a waste of time

craigslist just full of scammers and a waste of time?
This has been my fun for the past few days...After reviewing some of the posts on yahoo answers is craigslist just a waste of time? Should I go through ebay like I have always? This person wanted to pay more than what I was asking for and told me he was not scamming me all in one sentence. LOL He must have been in denial... The actual conversation begins at the bottom of the post. sorry i have been scam that way before i made a payment and the money was deliver to his account and i didn't receive any item so i can't accept that kind of business once i made the payment through PayPal u first deliver the tracking number to PayPal and your account will be credited thanks On Sun, Oct 25, 2009 at 5:17 AM, Jeff wrote: Thank you again for your inquiry...there are a couple of things that will need to happen in order for me to ship the product. 1. no its not full of scammers. but thre are some of those in every site you visit. the only thing u gotta keep in mind when posting on CL is to deal locally. no mailing and no checks of any kind. i always do cash and must pick up. ive sold a few things already.
2 :
This is why anything I've done through craig's list is kept local only. If I can't see you face to face, no deal.
3 :
Yes, this is a scam. Accept payment first only. And no money orders or drafts. They try to send you too much money to hurry the sale and then the check is a fake. ~ But there are scammers on eBay and Craigslist alike. Both use the same tactic. eBay is better at helping you if you use PayPal. Never ship without payment.

My Wii Is Frozen

My Wii Is Frozen?
Ok i just bought a new game called red steel on the wii and it was going smoothly until it just stopped. A message came on the screen saying "the wii remote has lost connections with the console. Strangely, it wouldn't even turn off via the console switch. I did the normal troubleshooting thing for the wii and unplugged everything from it. I left it for about 5 minutes and then plugged it all back in. Then the wiimote flashed one blue light a few times, kept doing this and stopped working. I finally got to clicking the disc symbol when the entire console froze and let out a long buzzing noise. it wouldn't let me turn it off, eject or use the wiimote and has kept doing this since it first froze. I tried synching, googling the topic, and charging the wiimote. Is there any way i can get this to work without ringing nintendo? If not, what is nintendo's number for Wellington New Zealand?

That was happened to mine a few times as well. Just a system defect, in going to guess you bought a Wii when it first came out? When mine did that all I had to do was restart the console.. It's possible yours just has a defect. If it's still under warranty, you should be able to return it. If not, You can call Nintendo, and they will fix it for like $30-40
2 :
well i owna wii and i have never heard of something like that you should definetly give ninteno a call
3 :
this has happened to me a lot. you have to hold the power botton for about 10 seconds and then it will turn off.i am not sure what causes it but all i now is that is is not just some thing that happens to yours so dont get a new one. is normale but i am not shorw why the wii remote wont work
4 :
I'm not sure why your Wii is locking up. I recently bought a second Wii for my wifeand we had a lot of trouble with it, but at least we were getting an error message - if you can call "unknown error" an error message. I had to take it back and exchange it. Anyway, what I wanted to say is this: When you press the button on the Wiimote before turning on the Wii, up to four of the lights flash. How many of them flash is an indication of how much power is in your batteries. Four lights flash if you have new batteries. If only one light is flashing, that shows that the battery has nearly run out. That could be why you get the message that "the wiimote has lost conection with the console". Change the batteries in your wiimote to see if that improves things.
5 :
I just want to correct Michael Jones, the flashing lights do not stand for the battery level. 1 Flashing light is to indicate remote number 1. 2 lights= wiimote #2...so on so forth. As far as your console shutting down, that happened to me once and it was because my batteries moved in the remote and the bar on top of TV wasn't detecting the signal strong enough to recognize the remote. Try changing your batteries and make sure you don't move too fast and don't go too far away from the detection bar.

You all HAVE to READ this ......it is HORRIBLE?
WELLINGTON, New Zealand — A New Zealand mother who needed an electric oxygen pump to breathe died after an energy company cut the power to her home due to an unpaid bill, her family claimed Wednesday.Police said they launched an investigation into the death of Folole Muliaga, 44, on Tuesday, in the northern city of Auckland, which happened within hours of state-owned company Mercury Energy cutting power to her house Mercury general manager, James Moulder, said the company was devastated by the woman's death and was conducting its own investigation to determine what happened. He refused to say how much money Muliaga had owed the companyMuliaga, a schoolteacher with four children ages 5 to 20, had been off work since February with an illness when a Mercury Energy rep arrived on Tuesday to cut the electricity, said Sheehan, a nephew of uliaga's. and her son told the technician she was dependent on the oxygen machine to live but he cut the power and left ,911 was called she but she died This is horrendous to me was these kids mother s life worth several hundred dollers to them .Why did they not wait for her to be taken to a hospital or somewhere it is just horrible I think everyone should email this company and tell them how horrible the are. www.mercury.co.nz/Contact/Default.aspx this is the contact link on their customer service page yep it is definatly true I got it off fox news webpage please please email these horrible people

I hate how people are more concerned with money and power than actual people. How this could happen makes me sick. I hope they get to the bottom of who is responsible and see that it never happens again.
2 :
Wow....you'd think they wou;dve had a backup generator since it was a life or death situation. Poor kids....hope the power company gets their butts sued & the kids have money to survive until adulthood.
3 :
if this is true then it was murder. I hope you all will join together to help those children, I know you are a good people.
4 :
Companies do that here all the time, and people are killed every year in the good ole USA the same exact way! In my state, and I assume others, because of the power companies lack of morality, we have a law that says they cannot turn power off during the winter! If we didn't have it, they would be doing it! As far as oxygen, most people have oxygen tanks as well as they can't be slaved to an oxygen machine! Something fishy here!
5 :
Thats just wrong. Now her children have to go on with there lives knowing that their mother died because the elecrtric company wanted some money.
6 :
Dear USA, Eu, Australia ... When profit is more important than people, we are a doomed soxciety.
7 :
It's tragic, but how can you blame the power company? Do you think they have ESP? You cant trust the story that the technician was told, do you really think someone would cut the power if they knew someone would die, isnt that called murder or at the least manslaughter? Who would want that on their conscience? I think the whole blame is on the family, they let their mother die by not being responsible about their power bill, all shame on them I say. They are trying to shift the blame for their own fatal stupidity and it's very very sad. I know these big companies are heartless, and im normally totally against their heavy handed actions, but in this case I think they are being unfairly victimised. Who knows the whole truth? Definitely not us as you can read.
8 :
The livelihoods of the people who own and work at the power company depend on customers paying their bills. The nephew and the son made sure to tell the technician about the woman's oxygen pump when he arrived, but nobody bothered to pay the bill, make a payment arrangement with the power company or inform the company when all the past due notices arrived that a resident in the home relies on an oxygen pump for survival. You know, if you are direct with a company about your inability to pay, they're almost always willing to work with you. I realize that a huge error was made. The technician should have called his supervisor or given another warning. I don't know why he didn't take the warnings of the nephew and the son seriously. And by the way - this isn't all about profit. The article clearly states this is a STATE-OWNED company. You probably would have received nicer treatment from a privately owned company. Whenever the government owns anything, there are rules and procedures to be followed and very little flexibility. That's the nature of government bureaucracy.
9 :
What is your question???
10 :
she died happy watching soaps and eating bon bons. if she can't pay the electric bill she cannot provide for her children so the kids are now better off. they do not need McDonald's, CHIPS AND CANDY OR THEIR MOMMY! WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN THEY HAVE THE HOUSE AND SENATE SO ODDS ARE YOURS IS A BLEEDING HEART LIBERAL DEMOCRAT!!!!!!

Wool socks and cashmere lined leather gloves?
2 :
Im from Minnesota, so I have lots of budget ideas for staying warm in very cold weather. On thiing I do is wear leather palmed mittens with knit gloves underneath, you cut a small hole on the side of the mitten for your pinky to come through so you can ride in them. feet, all you need are your regular riding boots, place a pair of large mens wool socks over the outside of your riding boots, then put on a pair of mens overshoes (the rubber overshoes business men wear) your toes stay toasty and your feet still fit in the stirrups. Another thing you can do is ride with a quarter sheet with a velcro rider hole. You can also make one with a wool blanket from army surplus. Simply cut out the hole and literally wrap it around your legs, the horses body heat keeps you VERY warm. Try these, I promise you will be warm. :)
3 :
Lots of layers of jumpers and under shirts. For socks I've always found it's far better to get one or two thick pairs of socks built for the cold, than lots of pairs of thinner socks. Gloves are a bit of a nightmare, as too thick and you can't ride. Try not to get them wet when doing yard duties etc as your hands will freeze, so long as your gloves are dry they will work better. One brilliant thing that I worked out this year is wearing a pair of tights under your johds, that will really help keep you warm.
4 :
You can get skiing socks and gloves they are great! Also they make covers for your helmet to keep in the warmth I got mine at Millbrook and I just love it you can slip it off and wash it and its not that expensive. My Absolutely favorite boots are my Arctic sport Muck boots. You cant look them up online. I highly recommend them. Good Luck.

Wool socks with hand warmers in your boots and hand warmers in your gloves.
6 :
You could use hand and feet warmers that people use when they go skiing and snowboarding. They are cheap and they work for hours.
7 :
Thicker Socks and Gloves
8 :
i use boot warmers, and a pair of boots i bought from LL Bean. The great thing about LL Bean is that you can try the boots out, and if they dont work out (even after a couple weeks) you can send them back! of course i didnt need to because mine were so excellent!

If your ex meets someone and sleeps with her soon after the split but then we get back together is it cheatin
We had split up for the 2nd time but I hadn't moved out yet. I'd gone to wellington for the xmas etc. . When I got back he seemed wierd I was meant to be packing up and moving out so i questioned him and he admitted he met someone. Turns out he quite likes her so as you can imagine I got upset. I decided I still wanted him and pretty much begged him to give it another go. He has agreed but it seems like it is more me than him that wants it. Part of the reason why it hasnt worked is , he wants me to get a job he has supported me since I moved in with him. Plus I'm not flash on house work so I've promised to try harder, get a job etc. But now I dont trust him and watch him like a hawk. Do you think we can get past this. I can tell he must have quite liked this girl as he is not the sort to cheat. He basically told me straight away. Says he feels bad about it for me and for her as when he hooked up with her he genuinely thought we were split up. Do we have a chance?

What made you decide that you wanted him back? Was it only because he had met someone? If he had not met anyone would you of still want him back? I think we need to know the background reason as to why you both split in the first place. I don't think it's cheating but it would of been respectful for him to not of been with anyone else until you had moved out. Cheers

So you split up for the 2nd time, were in the process of moving out, but decided you wanted him back when you found out that he had already found someone else? Sounds like you might be in the relationship again for all the wrong reasons. You might want to take a look at yourself and find out what you want and what will make you happy. It sounds like you weren't being an equal partner, so to speak (by not having a job or helping around the house), like he wanted you to be. Maybe you should take some time and explore the reasons why. I think that you should agree to part ways and let him go. I mean, did he only take you back because you begged and he felt guilty? This isn't good either. Find a guy who you want to be with, and who wants to be with you, not because you think you should be together.
6 :
you broke up and it was official......you left your stuff there but as far as relationships go.....you were broken up so that it was not cheating. if he met someone else, then he has all the right to do so. your relationship was over when he went with this other person. now that you are both back together, you have to forget what happened because it really had nothing to do with you. he was free to do as he liked......and remember you left!!!! you left him....even if it was for xmas or whatever, you left!!!! he seems to be a nice guy....he is honest and he must have really liked her. for him to get over her and start a relationship with you, you have to do your part...... you are making use of him with his supporting you and you not doing much for the house. i suggest if you want to hold on to his guy you better do your part. get a job even how measly it is and do your part at home. maybe you can show him that you are worth the sacrifice of his giving up this other girl who he must like too. if you do not change in your ways and do your part in your relationship, he will wisen up and some pretty and nice girl will take him away from you. you just got a reprieve......make use of it as you have been given another chance.
7 :
im affraid to say it seems your relationship is going nowhere. you need to get out before it drags you down. the longer you stay with him the more jealous you will become, which will cause more arguments. unless you both take a step back and speak about you feelings , maybe with a professional you will end up hateing each other. him for being continually watched and you for thinking he doesn't love you. many of us stay in a relationship long after they are over just because we don't like the thought of the alternative. i hope it all works out for you, life should be happy best of luck .
8 :
You had split for the second time, what were you thinking, third time lucky? You had considered moving on and by the sounds of it, so had he. You are probably feeling quite insecure at the mo because you know that he can move on and disregard your past together? Well reality hurts sometimes but "the past" it was. So don't dwell on the past, as you are only wasting the time you have today. Don't look back in 3 months time, thinking what have I done, get out and enjoy today and tomorrow, forget the past!
9 :
I don't want to sound mean... Move on, it seems your ex has. If you are watching him like a hawk and can't trust him you may never get past this! Honestly, he hasn't cheated on you because you were split up when he hooked up with the girl. It sucks to know he has moved on so soon but I would feel uneasy knowing he had/still has feelings for another girl. Ask yourself this... if he didn't tell you about this other girl, would you still want him? Do you still want him knowing you can't have him? Are you going to change the ways you have written for you or to save the relationship? Good luck :)

Laws about PAYCHECKS..in

Laws about PAYCHECKS..in ?
So...every week I am supposed to get my paycheck on a Friday...I work at a hotel in Okeechobee, and the owner lives in Wellington, 1hour and a half away. The manager faxes him payroll on TIME every week, but he is to lazy to send his stuff on time. So some weeks I get my paycheck on saturday, on whenever Fedex shows up. It has even been as bad as 4 days...all because he is lazy and stupid. So my question is... IS there anything I can do to get him to realize hey...you need to send them on time...or find a different solution... Sometimes I have bills that need to be paid THAT day, and I can't pay it b/c he didn't send the checks. Who pays the late fee??? So I have spoken with the manager and she has spoken to the owner.. when the manager gets payroll which is on a wed. as soon as she gets it she faxes it to the owner...his response it well they need to get it to me faster. he has two days to get the checks there...and dosn't care if they get there on time or not. He basicly said well the employees that can't wait should just be replaced. I was very fortunate to fnd this job..it's a shitty one, but in the small town I live in I was lucky to find this. I don't want to quit and I have been looking for another job but no one is hiring....Is he breaking a law?

You can write your employer a letter and POLITELY ask him to set a specific day of the week that his employees can be assured that their paychecks will arrive or be deposited directly into their checking accounts. Don't be sarcastic or whinney about it. It would also help if you could get all or most of the people in your workplace to sign it also...so the employer would know that all have the same feelings and concerns.
2 :
I understand it's not easy but you need another job with the economy the way it is things will just get worse.
3 :
As an employer, he is obligated by federal standards and Florida employment law to 1. designate specific pay days and 2. pay his employees on those specific days. (or earlier if the paydate falls on a holiday or day when the business isn't open) Since it is a hotel, I'm sure it's open everyday. As far as what to do, that's hard because you don't want to piss him off even though what he is doing is wrong. Since you report directly to the manager, I would voice your concerns to the manager and let him/her deal with the owner. I would mention something along the lines of "as an employee, I need to be able to depend on receiving my checks on the designated paydays. Just like everyone else, I have bills that must be paid and when we don't get our checks on time, it results in late fees and delinquencies in my financial commitments. I'm not asking for anything unreasonable - it's only right for people to get paid when they are supposed to" I'm sure the manager isn't getting paid on time either and will understand your concerns. This will then place the burden on the manager to discuss the issue w/ the owner. In the interim, keep documentation of EVERYTHING (all dates when you weren't paid on time, record of your talk w/ the manager, etc.) If things do not improve, I would begin quietly looking for another job. When you leave that employer, file a complaint w/ the labor board in your state. The employer will be fined and you could possibly be reimbursed for lost time (the days when you should have had the check & weren't paid yet..) More than likely, they won't have your final check ready when they are supposed to - you get paid for that too.

"Yet as she held the apple—the lost child from her world—Annette felt as if she should keep it." 11. Fantasy, with a touch of supernatural/mythology. 12. No. I think you said that before.

I sometimes like teen romance type novels, comedies, or fantasy. 3.Harry Potter. 4. Hm. I honestly don't read too many young authors. 5. It has no title yet, as I suck at those... but will be about werewolves. :) 6. Man on Fire and Inception. 7. Ah man. Um... The women in my family are in love with Johnny Depp. 8. Well, the book isn't exactly a comedy, so none so far. =P 9. Talene Kroeger (one of the werewolf females in my book). 10. None. I haven't actually started the complete writing process... So much planning to do. 11. Fantasy. Werewolves and such (no vampires). 12. Not really. Would you be surprised if I was 19? ;)

I can't stand Twilight and I've never read Artemis Fowl. 4). I don't know..... 5). My title's not finalized yet. 6). That's a hard question. (Imma google the author you suggested later) 5. Don't have a title for it. So far it's 'Story I'm Writing'. 6. Harry P#5, Disturbia, Up or Wall-E. I love Wall-E. 7. Tom Welling or Ian Somerhadler. yum! 8. a new word- 'lasideboy- means weird lookin' girl'. 9. Mine is Heidi McGill: her story has more umph to it. She has more personality. 10. I'm a creative B*itch. State the real facts, or don't say anything at all. 11. I really don't know! I'm thinking realistic fiction... I gotta Google genre's really quick. 12. Kind of...
6 :
1. anything and everything. Alot of candy/sweets (I have a sweet tooth) :) luckily I have a fast metabolism or I'd be in trouble.... 2. Adventure. Anything that has the hero's going on an adventure, either through a fantasy land or just a spy action novel. I love reading about things that would never happen in real life. A hint of romance in the action is good. 3. Harry Potter, but just the first 4 books. They just got too complicated after that. 4. I read Gordon Korman alot in middle school (I'm in college now). I remember him fondly. He wrote 3 trilogies about teens in survival situations. 5. I haven't decided yet. I'm thinking about "Candles". What do you think? 6. Hum... thats hard. A toss up between Casanova(with Heath Ledger), Stardust, and the Back to the Future trilogies. 7. I'm not sure I have one. Maybe Heath Ledger (R.I.P), Micheal J. Fox, Vin Diesel, or Mark Walhburg. 8. One of my teen characters played a prank on his roommate (at boarding school) using pinecones. I thought it was funny. 9. Probably the roommate I mentioned above. (Not the one that played the prank, the other teen guy.) His name is Eric. He's tall, lanky, with brown hair and brown eyes. He does well in school but is worried about what to do after high school. 10. I don't even know. I haven't gotten to the angst-y part of my book yet. 11. Adventure/sci-fi/fantasy. It's set in the post-apolcatic future. Its sci-fi, but no aliens. Its also fantasy, but no mythological creatures. It's complicated. 12. You write better than alot of older teens. Good luck with your story!
7 :
1. I don't really eat much when I write, it just distracts me. If I do, it would just be a little bag of cheeze-its or something simple like that. What am I craving? Well, I couldn't eat ANYTHING today because of a dang dentist appointment, so right now I'm pretty much craving...food. God, I'm hungry. Okay, new topic. 2. Same here, I always read fantasy. 3. Again, same here. Percy vs. Harry is giving me a headache, too hard of a decision. 4. I really don't know. I usually read the popular, best-selling books, but Kaleb Nation's books sound interesting, I'll give him a try. 5. Victims of the Deep 6. I'm not much of a movie watcher, but I do love Disney (the old Disney, not the crap modern Disney), especially Beauty and the Beast (I know, dork alert). 7. Morgan Freeman, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, etc. None of them are cute really, I just love all their movies and the characters they play. 8. Hmm...I honestly don't have one for my book. I like yours though. =) 9. Woot! I freaking love this question! So a little about her: -17 years old -hair is a dull red, messily cut just below the ears -brown eyes -features relatively plain except for the burn marks on the side of her neck that she hides with a scarf -adopted when she was five and has lived there ever since -reserved and not very social -has flashbacks of a fire from her past that no one believes - some thinking she's mad - so she keeps them to herself -has a passion for the piano, but never plays around anyone, thinking it will show her as weak That was probably a little more detailed than you were asking, sorry 'bout that. =) 10."Killing yourself won't save her." 11. Fantasy-ish 12. Well I don't really count, since I already knew that from previous questions. =) Fun question! =)
8 :
1. I mostly drink juices or coco-cola :D But right now, it's 3:30 AM, so I'm not craving anything :P 2. Murder mysteries, fantasy and chic lit. But I only write mysteries. 3. Tie between Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. 4. Hannah Moskovitz and Kody Keplinger. 5. Ashes of Vengeance. 6. Casablanca, Grease and Chicago among others. 7. Looks wise-Ian Somerhalder or Neil Patrick Harris. In general-Joseph Gordon Lewitt is a new favourite. 8. It had something to do with unicorns and my cousin...approximately 11 years ago. 9. Logan Wilson--CIA agent. 10. This is from my previous story: "I will always be grateful to that bag of rice." It makes more sense in the story and it's based on a very wonderful, personal experience. 11. Adventure/Mystery. It's a gray area. 12. Should I be?
9 :
1. I actually try not to eat while I write. But I'll eat before I write. Munching on pretzels or crackers. Stuff like that. 2. Fantasy is my favorite genre. 3. Twilight - totally. Haha. You know I mean to say Harry Potter ;) 4. I don't know too many (none) young authors, so I can't formulate an answer. 5. Actually, I'm writing 3 books right now that I'm focusing on one chapter at a time for each. I'll pick one. "Burn All Magic" 6. Favorite movie? I have seen enough to give a good answer. I might say Titanic since I have seen it so many times, but I'm not sure. 7. WILL SMITH. WILL SMITH. WILL SMITH. That man is a hunk of comedy. My heart laughs for him. haha, I sound like a fangirl. Actually, I just really love his acting. He can play a variety of roles. And only a good actor can do that. 8. "JaJuJa" - "Jasmine, Jupiter, Jade". They're triplets. The phrase "JaJuJa" is actually never mentioned in my writing. Just something stupid I thought of. 9. Favorite character ever created? You're killing me. Characters are 1 of the main reasons why I write. Well, perhaps this one character named Bethany Armstrong. 10. Probably the most meaningful is "Her shoes were flat and her feet were flat" because it suggests she does a lot of traveling and she is not so well to do. 11. Fantasy. 12. I thought you might have been like 28 when I first saw you on here. Than I saw you more and I thought maybe 18-20. 13 is a bit of a difference, so yeah, a tiny bit!
10 :
1. I eat these things called baozi. They're dumplings stuffed with deliciousness. I'm craving something... sweet. Like cherries. 2. Tragedy. 3. Harry Potter. 4. Mmm, I'm not sure. I don't really know any young authors. 5. Porcelain 6. Leon: The Professional, Guns and Talks, or Secret. I like a lot of movies, so I don't think I can say that I have a favourite. 7. Uh... Hm... Rainie Yang. 8. I don't write anything funny, really. 9. Jayden Wong or Abel Cain. 10. "He died that morning." 11. Tragedy. 12. No. I don't care about ages. Besides, that's like saying "are you surprised that I'm twenty-two" even though it's stated on my page. |:
11 :
1) I eat sugary things when I write and I'm not craving anything right now; I just ate dinner. 2) My favorite genre is also fantasy, though I have a soft spot for science fiction too. 3) I tie between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter too. I liked them both for different reasons. 4) Isobelle Carmody. She wrote this book called "Alyzon Whitestarr" and it was fantastic, but I don't think it made that much of a splash when it was published in the US. It did in Australia (somewhat), but not here. It should have. 5) Puppetmaster. It's my NaNoWriMo novel. 6) Dreamgirls, without a doubt. 7) I don't think I have a favorite actor. 8) The Emo Hallway. It was for a parody I wrote of vampire books. With so many emo-seeming people storming their way into the genre, the ones I included in the story needed their own hallway in the school to do their emo-ing in. 9) Bellflower "Belle" Constantine, a supporting character in ANOTHER story. (I have about twenty in storage that I started, stopped, and plan to finish one day; I only have three that I'm actively working on.) She can sense emotions and teleport (it's a superperson story, just roll with it) and I just love her hippy-dippy name and chilled-out vibe. Before I even had her role planned out, I knew she would be in the book. 10) (From Puppetmaster): "Then don't dance." (It's out of context, so it will need some explaining. This is said to the main character, who loves to dance and is being kept from doing so by the person who says this, the antagonist that is obsessed with her. I'm sure you can figure out the deeper meaning to this.) 11) (Puppetmaster): Contemporary young adult fiction/suspense. 12) It doesn't surprise me that much. Teens have a big presence on Y!A. I should know--I'm sixteen and I've seen so many teens around here!
12 :
1) I don't usually eat anything while writing because I'd probably get my keyboard all sticky. But I usually have a cup of ginger tea. Right now I'm not craving anything because I feel kind of sick. 2) Drama, sometimes fantasy as long as it isn't crappy, and sometimes crime fiction. 3) Definitely Harry. 4) I'll have to say Nathaniel Rich. 5) It's called "Lilac". 6) The Prestige, Labyrinth, 1408. 7) Robert Downey Jr. He's awesome. 8) Nothing really, my novel isn't supposed to be funny... 9) Eliott Rye, the cynical, socially-awkward photographer with a passion for philosophy. 10) "I've been seeing him everywhere." 11) Drama/Mystery. 12) No. I'd be surprised if you were 46 though.

My company discriminate me! Please Help me!?

My company name is Pathmark - Grocery store, located in 5100 Wellington avenue, Ventnor, NJ 08406. When I been in Ukraine they wrote 8$ per hour, minimum 30 hour, also they promise me 40 hours. But they didn't do that. All time I receive around 24 -26 hours, My average hour is 24 for all summer, I need to pay for my room, food, transport from my home to work... I was trying to talk with manager Lou Panico, He promise me 38 hour, but just promise, He don't do that. Other students have 40 - 36 - 37 hour. Another work people in that store ask me do you work part time? But I must work Full time. I don't know what to do. America is free country which means that they can hire who they want and how many hours they want you to work... If your employer finds out that you posted this on the internet with your full name you will probably be fired so if I were you I would remove this immediately.
2 :
First, America is NOT such a free country, but it IS a country where people have many opportunities legally to fight for freedom. Oftentimes freedom is not given to you on a plate; you have to fight for your rights because there are a lot of bad people around in positions of power. Contact a lawyer. Free legal services are available at: http://www.usattorneylegalservices.com/free-legal-aid-New-Jersey.html You can also contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission http://www.eeoc.gov/field/newyork/charge.cfm Good luck.
3 :
There is a lot about life that isn't fair, but complaining will not get you anywhere. In fact complaining is a sure way to lose your job. In New Jersey, employees are presumed to be "at will." At-will employees may be terminated for any reason, so long as it's not illegal. At-will employment is a doctrine of American law that defines an employment relationship in which either party can break the relationship with no liability, provided there was no express contract for a definite term governing the employment relationship and that the employer does not belong to a collective bargain (i.e., has not recognized a union). Under this legal doctrine: “any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work. In New Jersey, if an employer shows express proof that an employee is employed at-will, even an implied contract will not overcome the presumption of at-will employment. You are lucky to be working 24-26 hours a week. There are hundreds of thousands of Americans struggling to find a job. Your manager cannot give you more hours just because you need more money. The store is most likely having to cut back on employees and hours just like other businesses. You are free to look for a job somewhere else with more hours, however finding a full time job in this economy will be very difficult. I would not mention discrimination or you run the risk of losing your job.
4 :
You have the freedom to go work somewhere else for 40 hours or just work somewhere else for an additional 16.
5 :
They're not discriminating against you. This is very typical of grocery store employers.
6 :
In America...groceries bag you.
7 :
If you have a copy of the correspondence where the store " guaranteed" you a minimum of 30 hours per week at $8 dollars per hour, you could tell the manager that he is in violation of the contract and that he owes you for the back pay difference(30 hrs- 24hrs= 6 hrs per week). You could force payment through the labor board if necessary, however doing so would probably end your employment unless the contract also guaranteed a specific time period of employment.
8 :
Why would you put your full name address of the company your work for and manager's name on the internet for the whole world to see? Whether or not you are being discriminated against, which I don't think you are, this is totally unprofessional. If your employer saw this it would be cause for termination. Haven't you heard all the stories of people who lose their jobs for posting things on their facebook pages or other places on the internet? There are people all over the country who would kill for those 24-26 hours, maybe they are trying to work around your school schedule. Maybe they just don't have the money to give everybody 40 hrs a week. There are a lot of reasons you could be getting fewer hours than you thought most likely the horrible economy and the nature of working in grocery.

Charles Dickens was born on February 7 of 1812. Charles Dickens had a difficult family life when he was young, due to his father's imprisonment for debt. The rest of Charles' family (his 6 younger siblings, 1 older brother, and mother) went with him. Charles worked at a shoe factory to help support his family. Charles Dickens lived in a boarding house, and visited his family every Sunday. This experience had an enormous influence on him. Charles had a happy life before his father was in prison, but had been very dark when his father was in prison. These experiences influenced him write Oliver Twist in his later years. Once Charles Dickens dad had got out of jail, he sent Charles to Wellington House Academy in London as a day pupil. Charles Dickens had to leave after 3 years, because his family was evicted from their home (due to unpaid rent). Charles Dickens had then started to work off jobs such as, a clerk at a law office, a stenographer, a journalist, and a cartoonist. In 1833, at the age of 21, Charles Dickens had his first short story, and some of his sketches published in a magazine. 3 years later, at the age of 24, his first book was published (a collection of stories). The same year, he had married Catherine Hogarth, who was the daughter of the editor of the "Evening Chronicle." Once married, they traveled, and he started his own weekly journal, acted a bit, and published a number of books, including the famous "David Copperfield." Charles dickens had then later fell in love with another woman in 1857. Charles Dickens had then eventually left his wife to marry this woman. In the mid-1860's, Charles Dickens had gave a number of readings across the world. Charles Dickens had visited America twice, the first time he hated it; the second time, he fell in love with it. His adult life may have been stable in many ways, but his father was arrested again, and his family constantly turned to him for financial help. Charles Dickens had then died in June 9th 1870 due to a stroke, after a days writing of his unfinished novel Our Mutual Friend How can i tell if its copyrighted? Is there a website where i can paste this and they will tell me? no some kid on yahoo gave it to me and said its in his one words but i want to 100$ sure so i dont fail

When an original work is published in any form it is automaticaly copyright. Generally, legal issues relate to proving the date of the first publication - and therefore who owns the copyright in a disputed work. If you didn't write this piece, it is copyright to the person who wrote it and published it.

If you are thinking about turning this in at school as your own report and it is not, then you need to worry more about plagiarism than copyright. You could end up with an F if the instructor finds out you cheated. You can use this as the basis of your own report, just be sure to give credit to the source, and add some facts from other sources.

Hi, well, my first advice is to spend loads of time in Auckland...because thats my town! but.......... it depends on what you want...it is winter now (or supposed to be) and so the south island places like christchurch and down etc. will be very cold (by our standards), if you want snow and stuff go there, if you want a couple of sunny days to go shopping and check out parks and events then stay in wellington and auckland. The school holidays are coming up in a couple of weeks so there will be lots on, and the Bledisloe cup (rugby) is being played (n.z and oz) on the 19th of june I think in Auckland at mt eden stadium, so a bit happening there. Should be fun!....hey but this is from my point of view....hope it helps in some way. I actually haven't been to the south island before, but its meant to be very beautiful! Rotorua has some cool things like the hot springs and thermal geysers stuff, but my mum lived there once and said it was a day trip thing, and smelt. he he. (sorry rotoruaians). But probably pretty cool! I don't know much about this flex pass thing, could you hire a camper or something when over here? then youd get to do what you like, otherwise there is daily bus routes to and from many of these places (in the north anyway) so you could do that? Good luck. Theres also trains. Checkout the schedules online.

If you are taking the ferry across from Wellington to Picton - you are in and out of there in no time - so you saved 2 days there (meaning you arrive in Picton and drive from there either through Blenheim or by-pass Blenheim and head straight to Nelson.) It takes 90mins average to drive from Picton to Nelson - spend more time in Nelson - sunniest place in NZ and so much to do with. Go to the Abel Tasman National Park - you will love it - so much to see and do there.

It depends on what you want to see really. I guess Auckland has a bit to offer, but for scenery you have got some good places to visit. As I live in the South Island I can only comment on these places with more knowlede (as I have not been to Rotorua or, Taupo and visited Auckland a few times). The ferry ride from Wellington to Picton takes around 3 and a half hours....the ride thru the Marlborough Sounds is lovely (although I will point out the middle hour in the Cook strait can be rough, so I recommend you buying some travel sickness tablets just in case!!! (I will also point out too it can also be perfectly nice too). From Picton to Blenheim is about 30mins....I assume you will be doing the wine stuff in Blenheim (I live here), of which there are many wineries to chose from....if you want somewhere else to go too there is the new Aviation Museum thats just opened up (with help from Peter Jackson and the Weta workshops who helped with the displays) and is supposed to be very good...I have not yet been myself tho. Blen to Chch...I would recommend the train, you can get a discount seat called a backpackers fare which gives you an older carriage (with smaller windows) and if oyu get a seat on the seaside of the train (which is left travelling south) you will have great views of the sea. Kaikoura has whale watching which is supposed to be first class and could be an option. I lived in Christchurch for years and love it there....things to see are the gondola, the Antarctic centre (near the airport), the Arts Centre (centre of town) museum and botanic gardens, the latter 3 all being free entry. Mount Cook is lovely, but the town itself is tiny...you can do some walks to the ends of the glaciers...I know the Tasman and 2 other glaciers end there...I think they are called the Muller and I forget the otherone which has a reasonbly easy walk to a glacial lake and great views of Mount Cook. Dunedin has a few things to offer I guess like the beachs (lovely white sand and in places stunningly blue water which look amazing), Larnach Castle and the Albatross colony on the Otago Peninsular. QueensTOWN has lots to offer, even tho it is very touristy there is amazing things to do like the adrenaline things like bungy jumping, Shotover Jets (or you can go from the Lake (Wakatipu) itself, paragliding etc. THe views around the area are also stunning, with the lake and mountains....there is skiiing too and you can cross the lake on the old boat (grrr I have forgotton its name!!) or go up on the gondola...I suggest doing gondola rides in the late afternoon to see it in light and when it gets darker and the lights come on....its really lovely. I worked in Franz Josef for a while and I love this area, its stunning....the glacier you can either fly over, fly onto or walk on (the half day trip is easy and fun), there are lots of little bush walks around the village too (i recommend centennial walk to see the glacier from the carpark and peters pool a little reflective walk and you can see glow worms at night on another walk close to town....forgot name!!). I know there is an ice climbing wall just opened up recently which is supposed to be excellent. I also saw the Imax movie there too which is quite cool for a change of pace. THe drive to Nelson will be lovely and the whole area is just stunning. If you get the chance you should see Lake Matheson, the most photographed lake in NZ with stunning relfective views (on good days) of Mt Cook and Tasman... Nelson...well you probalby won;t have time to see the Abel Tasman area (already discussed by someone else) which are lovely. If you wanted to change anything, maybe when you arrive in Blenheim, (try to arrive as early as you can) do the wine trail that day and the next morn. The train to Kaikoura (and Christhcurch there is only 1 per day) leaves Blenheim about midday and you can maybe do some whale watching there and then catch the train the next day to Christchuch which gets there mid/late afternoon...I am not putting Blenheim down as there are some great things to do here (especially the wine, but also mainly scenic views away mainly from Blenhiem itself and can take a while to get there)...you will also see the Marlborough Sounds (or at least part of them) when you sail in on the ferry. Have a great time.....you should love it and maybe you will come back for more!!!

Day 14-16, I think you mean Queenstown? Otherwise, you're in Australia! Make sure wherever you go, that you ask lots of questions. New Zealanders don't like to give out information that may affect how much money they get from you as a tourist, or otherwise. Yep, I'm jaded about that! Days 17-19, you'll be doing quite a bit of driving. Beware tourist traps. They'll really stick you for $$$ when wanting to do an activity, such as jet boating or bungee jumping. Most things just aren't worth what they are asking. You should try to skip Christchurch, as it's just another town. Instead, go to Milford Sound when you're in Queenstown. You won't regret the views! Wellington's not that special, in my mind. Fortunately for you, you won't be driving. NZ drivers are absolutely crap. You may see snow in June in Dunedin. I'm just north of there and it snowed last night. Not much, just a light dusting around the hills.

NZ is a good country to see by bus - no city or town is too far from another. Let me give your question some thought as I think there a few places you've missed. It really depends how much time you have here and when you need to leave (to get back home and work). Can I email you? Just send me a yes or no reply on my email listed. Thanks
6 :
Give day 7 a miss, you don't need two days in Blenheim, I would give myself an extra day in Auckland. Day 14 to 16 will be in Queenstown not Queensland, unless you are flying to Australia for three days. Have you considered going to the Coromandals when you leave Auckland on your way to Rotorua. Thames is stunning and a visit to Hot Water Beach (Thermal) is almost compulsory.

What a nice reflection on Australia!

What a nice reflection on Australia!?
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- A burglar visited Graeme Glass' home in New Zealand twice in one day - first to steal some goods and later to return them, along with a heartfelt apology note. The thief struck while Glass was at work in the southern resort of Queenstown on Tuesday. The burglar smashed a window to gain entry and made off with a laptop computer, a camera, and Glass's wallet with an American Express credit card. The thief returned the goods later in the day, along with a new basketball and two pairs of gloves bought on the stolen credit card. Glass and his wife, Shirley, discovered the loot piled on their kitchen table with a neat, handwritten full-page note from the burglar saying he was sorry for "violating the safety and security of your home." The robber also promised to leave cash in Glass' mailbox to pay for the smashed window when he had enough money. "I have never written truer words when I say that I wish that I had never done this to you.

Yes, it's a nice gesture on behalf of the idiot that broke into the home in the first place. But, what has this to do with Australia?
4 :
strange story.....unless you might think the robber was drunk first and then turned sobber...or had a car accident or something with head injury after the robbery so that his personality changed.....I do not think this happens most of the time but human being is a very complex creature and there are always a lot of reasons for someone's action.....

whats that got to do with Australia?

That is nice but if you notice... it is WELLINGTON, New Zealand. It is NOT AUSTRALIA!! We are NOT the same country. Could be better posted in New Zealand section. Cheers

yeah, whats this got to do with australia? did the bloke steal vegemite and return it or something?

Exactly what part of this reflects in any way on Australia? The article begins Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - might this be a clue ? Was the victim Australian? No? The thief ? The laptop, maybe? The wallet was kangaroo hide? When he returned the goods...he pinned the note to a vegemite sandwich? Honey - New Zealand is a DIFFERENT COUNTRY. LOL Bless ya - Inspirational story - misdirected reflection :=)

you dummy that's NZ- a different country. I bet that you're another idiot yank and I hope* you don't get shot or die from obesity.

Ask this question in the genealogy portion of Yahoo Answers. They can give you some good tips. Go to your local library or Mormon library and look in the genealogy section. The Mormons are well known for keeping extensive records and family trees and it has nothing to do with whether or not they were Mormon...it covers all faiths, cultures, etc. Many libraries can provide free access to the genealogy websites that you have to pay for and work closely with the local genealogy groups in town. Ask your librarian. Do a general search of genealogy sites online. There are many that can give you a lot of information for free. This should give you a good start. Good luck!

I Need Help With My History Essay On The Battle Of Waterloo

I Need Help With My History Essay On The Battle Of Waterloo!!!!!!!!!?
We were watching a DVD on the battle of Waterloo for a history assessment and the supply teacher stood in front of the smart board and talked over a chunk of it. that chunk's the answers to one of the questions. The question is "How Did The British Defeat The French Old Guard?" The DVD said "with his cavalry defeated and the Prussians advancing Napoleon decided to attack with his elite infantry, The Old Guard. The Old Guard would have made short work of the British redcoats one on one so Wellington devised a plan. He told his... RIGHT BOYS STOP TALKING OR YOU WON'T HEAR THE DVD AND YOU WON'T GET A GOOD GRADE IN THE ASSESSMENT!!! YOU BOY, GET YOUR HEAD UP NOW!!!! RIGHT THERE WE GO.... and the old guard found themselves doing something they had never done before, retreating. The battle was won and Napoleon was defeated. Do you know what she talked over? Thanx for ur help!!!!! :)

Wellington's troops laid on the ground below the crest of the hill, out of sight of the French and somewhat protected from the artillery fire. When the Old Guard crested the hill, they were met with massed infantry firing point blank, and were sent into retreat. Hope this helps Retired military officer and student of military history
2 :
Napoleon lost for a few reasons. 1.....He always used his artillery (Guns) to soften up the enemy. Guns on mass breaking down the infantry formations. At Waterloo....he sent in his infantry and did not use his guns. 2.....Wellington had his army on the high ground, giving him greater range on his muskets. 3........The weather did not help, Napoleon the ground was muddy and slick, now he had to have his troops fight up hill in slick conditions then fight the british. Finally wellington did have his artillery in-placed and it tore a hole through the Imperial guards calvary units. Lastly and obviously Wellingtons infantry were way more schooled in discipline and Napoleonic tactics from previous battles. Napoleon would break up British box formations then pick off the unprotected infantry. At Waterloo the British forces held to their box formations, thus what every Imperial guard calvary that managed to get under the guns and survived the enemy artillery attack now had to face the fixed bayonets and lances of infantry in a box formation, the first three lines of a box formation would form into a big spiky wall protecting the infantry inside from Sabre and lancer attacks. Likewise the men behind the three lines of defence would be firing their muskets at the calvary who had lost their momentum of attack. You could say it was Napoleon acting out of character that caused his defeat, he made mistakes he would not have made in other battles.
3 :
ahahaha, very funny XD. and Ironic. Right, on to the topic. As the other guy said, they hid behind hill to gain protection from artillery. Also because british solders were on the ground, they seem as the french as dead, which took the old guard by surprise when they suddenly stood back up. Plus they were firing at Point blank. another factor was the ground. It just rained, the ground was muddy, muddy ground reduce effectiveness of cannon balls because they slow cannon balls down.
4 :
The British !st regiment of Foot Guards (commanded by colonel Maitland), were positioned out of sight in a cornfield. As the Old Guard drew level with the cornfield, the Foot Guards opened fire into the exposed flank of the enemy.Unable to return fire as Maitland's men were not to their front, those troops in the flank and rear of the French column (the ones taking the British fire) broke and ran, forcing the rest of the column to retreat (which they did in good order).

well, you have to put yourself in a situation to meet girls of the same age. you're not going to meet those people if you don't go where they are.
2 :
I think that you should just start talking to somebody that you find interesting. Like if your in a store or something and your in line just start talking. People make friends that way all the time.

I think the internet is your best bet! Here are a few great chat sites. Employment/Recruitment agencies in New Zealand

Employment/Recruitment agencies in New Zealand?
I am going to NZ on a Working Holiday Visa on my own. I don't mind where I go in NZ. But I'll prob try Auckland and Wellington for admin jobs first. Can anyone tell me what agencies I should be signing up with for admin/office work? Or any agencies for hospitality/tourism/seasonal work would be great. Cheers

I think you should ask the question in the right category to get a comprehensive answer. What about choosing â—™ >Travel >New Zealand > Auckland, Wellington, or Other New Zealand â—™ to get good answers. If Y!A gets you "Travel > Australia" as proposal chose the option "browse other Y!A categories" to place your question into the right one. Maybe this website will help you at first: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/workingholiday/workopportunities/ ..
2 :
Go to this site, it has almost all jobs listed in New Zealand: http://seek.co.nz You will also find the agencies on that site too.

I am a thirteen year old girl, and I am setting out to redefine the word 'childish'. I love Nicholas Sparks, and I am greatly influenced my masters such as him, also J.D Salinger, F. Scott Fitzgerald (Who I am distantly related to), Neil Shusterman, John Steinbeck, and Avi. This is a tiny excerpt from one of my novels, called 'Wellington's Grand Heist.' It's not the intro, which I will include after this one. Richard Wellington doesn't know that Dotty Kline is the girl he met years ago. “The inwardness of despair is a constant struggle within the realms of one’s soul. The heart and mind is in continual conflict, driven by indecision, hesitation and diffidence of character; the confidence lacking to pursue what one wants, instead of what is expected of you.” Her father had given her an ultimatum; and though his voice had been quiet, it contained a sense of finality behind his words which could not be mistaken. His tone had been true to his intention, and his intention true to his meaning: She was to marry Mr. Williamson, or be estranged from her family. As she shuffled along the road to the factories, trying, in vain, to stop the cold slush of snow seeping through to the holes in her boots, the wind howling furiously and the threadbare branches of the tree shivered wildly up ahead. She could barely see her surroundings; only seven years worth of familiarity with the road enabled her to maneuver through the foggy mist of the early hours of dawn without the aid of clear and unhindered vision. She came to a stop here, looking around at her surroundings. It did not seem different in any way to the naked eye, though it had a certain warmth to it, a warmth which she cannot even begin to describe. Here she had met Richard Wellington, the young man she was most sure she was in love with. She had not come to elope, to throw herself into his embrace (though that was most certainly what she wanted to do). She had come to say a simple good-bye. This is the intro to the whole novel: In the year 1965, the city of London truly was ‘Swinging’. Just about everywhere you looked, people were doing something they probably shouldn’t have been doing. But this was accepted. It was exciting to do something you probably shouldn’t have been doing. To hell with morals! Who needed them? The English certainly didn’t. There were affairs, murders, love triangles—the whole damn country had turned into one hell of a West Side Story. For a bloke like Richard Wellington, being intelligent, smooth, cockney, and drunk in Swingin’ London worked like a charm. Getting paid a rather fair amount a day to do ‘odd jobs’ for criminals was a dream come true for an old man raised on blood, sweat, and tears; all derived, of course, from his mother. Richard Wellington wasn’t used to working for the things he had. No, he had the nasty habit of simply taking the things he wanted. Ever the scholar, he had a rather intelligent yet somewhat biased philosophy: ‘Steal from the rich, Cause they can live without a thousand pounds off their bloody millions.’ Perhaps he was right. Wellington used his looks, charm and wit to knit his way into the lives of London’s wealthiest—a con man through and through—finding a way to cleverly extort money from them, all the while fooling them with some outlandish plea: such as the old ‘The Wife and Children are out cold with pneumonia’ or the clever declare of false love to a unknowing social-climbing heiress, who was, quite coincidentally, from New York. Yet there was one bloke Wellington never could seem to fool. That particular man was a billionaire. That man’s name was Francois LaPlant. Francois LaPlant owned the Bennett Museum in downtown London, where he housed one of his dearest possessions: A big, fat fifty-carat diamond just screaming Wellington’s name. Wellington had walked past that diamond every day of every week of every month of every year for the last thirty years. It was only around this time that old fox began plotting to steal it—one of the biggest heists in history. It was also around this time that he took notice of one particular woman named Dotty Kline. Dotty Kline certainly was an Irish beauty, two years younger than Wellington. He had observed her from afar; and, just as he had suspected, she was not ‘just’ a pretty face. In fact, Dotty Kline was one of the cleverest criminals in all of London. You know what that bird did? She stole art without the actual piece ever leaving its home. Dotty painted and sculpted exact replicas of the valuables, switching them so she had the real deal and the owner had the phony. That’s what attracted Wellington to her—this was pratically his female counterpart. And this, lads and lasses, is where our story begins. In central London, the frosty air biting at your nose. Critique, please, and does it interest you?

You posted this a few times before (I'm always looking at the questions). It's okay, I mean I'm not into those types of books. But I would change the word "swinging", I don't know, I just don't see it fitting the intro for some reason.
2 :
What the hell is going on? This is the second excerpt I've clicked on today expecting some crude but understandably poor piece of writing from a kid and been pleasantly surprised by the quality. Perhaps there is hope for the youngsters yet! Ok, what to say? This is good. Very good. It's not the kind of story that interests me in general, but the structure is enough to allow me to breeze through it without stopping to re-read a lot of bits and therefore offer some feedback. I think the first bit is better than the second. It has a few aspects that could be re-worded to improve flow, eg the paragraph starting 'As she shuffled' could do with a final edit. There's also a couple of tense confusions. And being British I prefer 'manoeuvre' to 'maneuver', but that's neither here nor there I guess. The intro feels rushed to me. The first thing that hit me was the year; the excerpt suggested to me a late 19th/early 20th century setting, not 1965. As for the writing I think you could separate it out a bit to make it seem less like a big block of text, but as you've done that with the first excerpt I'm going to assume you will do this eventually. It's also a bit over-descriptive but again I think you'll fix that in the editing. Overall, bravo, it really is good.

But keep in mind, this was the year 1965. Dotty painted and sculpted exact replicas of the valuables, switching them so she had the real deal and the owner had the phony. That’s what attracted Wellington to her—this was pratically his female counterpart. But let’s jump ahead into present times. Wellington and Dotty still had not met at this time, but this is where the story begins. The Bennett Museum towered above him, its gray stone looking even colder in the early winter air. The small frown on his upturned face gave the illusion that he was upset about something, though he wasn’t—he had never been happier in his life. Richard Wellington was simply giving the building a stern look. The small frown turned into a small smile. “It’s been thirty years, old friend.” he chuckled. After one last short look upwards, Wellington turned and began walking down the sidewalk, only one thing on his busy mind. With a grunt, he sat down on a bench, crossing one leg over the other and stretching his right arm on the back of the wood. With a sigh, he lifted his fedora hat and ran a hand through his gray hair. Sitting on a bench across the way, a young woman was blaring an obnoxious pop song, reading a colorful magazine. Wellington shook his head, scratching his rough chin. He pushed up the sleeve of his coat and looked at his wristwatch over his small spectacles. He looked back up at the night sky, pulling his sleeve down. A Chilly wind blew through the square, forcing him to turn up the collar on his coat. A small female cough told him she had arrived. “I’ve heard quite a lot about you.” “Have you?” “Yes. But it’s not you who’s asking the questions, here, ducky. What’s it all about?” “Money, I say. But most others say love.” “Do you? And what do you say to ‘you’re a smart-ass’?” “I say people who must use vulgar language to get their point across obviously don’t know any other way but the American way.” he turned his head to look at her. “Richard Wellington.”
